Georgetown Raiders sweep Wainfleet 9-2 and 6-3 to take a 2-0 series lead in the intermediate BOWA hockey championship. Harvey Chappel leads with multi goal games as Raiders chase Lakefield winner for a semi final berth.
Margaret Bradley, daughter of Mr and Mrs William F Bedley of town, gave her official debut as a concert pianist at Hellionian Hall in Toronto. She performed works by Beethoven Bach Brahms Schumann and Chopin with Chopin encores, under B Hoyunga Carmen. A long list of attendees from Toronto and nearby towns attended including Mrs James Evans Miss Laura Scott Mr and Mrs Nielsen Dr E G Bishop Archdeacon Thompson and many others.
The North Halton District high school board approves a new cost sharing scheme at Milton meeting. Urban municipalities contribute about 1400 more each. 1950 budget totals 148000 with district share 35000. Georgetown school gains 1000 washroom, 500 lab gas, 8500 painting and lighting upgrades. Milton High hires 400 time clock. secretary treasurer Adam Sproat salary rises to 750. Easter transit funds to Georgetown planned for Terra Cotta and Glen Williams students.
A real thriller marked the first playoff in GRC industrial hockey Monday as Smith and Stone and Norval battled to a 6 all tie in overtime. Jack King opened for S S and Clark Lyons tied the game in overtime on a pass from Rev J L Self. King added another, Wilson scored three and South added one for S S while Lyons had two goals and two assists for Norval along with Red two and others contributing assists. Two games remain before a champion is declared with a rematch set for next Monday.

The Roxy Theatre hosted the Lorne Scots band concert with Bruce Smith as emcee. About 200 patrons were turned away from the Sunday evening event as donations of 5 to March of Dimes and Crippled Children's Fund were presented. The program included Holly Dwyer solos, Marlon Hepburn at piano, and performances by the Cuthbert Trio and local duets. A future April theatre concert and summer park shows are planned with hopes of Smith returning.
William I Willson, formerly an undertaker and furniture dealer, died at his daughter's home in Jackson on Sunday. He was in his 80s and father of town clerk Charles Willson.
The Boy Scout Committee met at Mr. Cliff Stacey’s home to plan a variety concert for late April or early May and set Cub Camp dates for immediately after echoe clo ses in June. Arrangements for use of the Hutther Glen site and a paper drive were made.
Georgetown Recreation Commission asked for a 1700 grant this year after receiving 400 last year. Officials noted a 5000 program spend last year and 7500 planned for this year. Mayor Cleave and Finance Chairman McGilvray refused a higher grant, citing high mill rates. A final decision is expected at next Monday’s meeting.
Mrs C A Retth of Seaforth and Mrs Charles Ward of Stouffville visited in town with their mother Mrs Edward HA on Guelph Street. Mrs Lawrence McClintock and Mary of Grand Valley spent a few days with Mrs Helen MacDonald. Mr and Mrs Walter Biehn Carolyn and Ellen visited Ingersoll with Mr and Mrs Thos Lee and family. Mr and Mrs Arthur Tyndall recently wintered at Miami Beach and visited en route home to Centreville Pa with Mrs W W Tyndall. Arthur Reinhardt of Leamington and Devhi Reichhardt of Comber spent the weekend at the Moyer home. The brothers are Royal Bank accountants in the two towns.
Sunday afternoon the Lorne Scots Regiment underwent inspection by Major General G. Vokes at Central Command Oakville. Troopers passed through armouries and marched past to an outside review as a large crowd watched. The brass band and pipe band performed while Lt. Col. John R. Barber of Georgetown commanded the regiment and received compliments for turnout and steadiness.
Six Farm Forums held a social evening in Stewarttown Hall with movies music and dancing. Denney Charles chaired the program which featured Deputy Reeve Herb Allen of Burlington a sing song led by Mrs Francis Thompson and a square dance contest judged by Mr Cromar Harding Price and Charlotte McCullough. Proceeds go to Easter crippled children campaign.
Ver dun Rebekah Lodge hosted Isabel Carr president of the Rebekah Assembly from Toronto. She was joined by Jean Burch and Sadie Rice. The event featured oriental decor and a $30 donation to Sick Children's Hospital ward furnishings in the Toronto district project.
The Cedarvale School staff and pupils held an evening worship at St John’s United Church. Mrs J Margeson prepared a fine service of praise with Helen Emmons and Gladys Cole as pianists and Barbara Bigford as soloist. Musicians D McQueen Jane Andrews Barbara Bligford Elsie nei June Magee Marion Barrett Isobel Skeffington Winnie Thomas performed in ensembles. Paula Arthurs read the lesson and Mrs C Brown led in prayer. Rev John M Smith delivered the fourth pre Easter meditation at the morning service. S T Faram played a violin arrangement and a favourite hymn closed the musical portion. Flowers were placed by Arthur Denham’s family.
Reverend Walter E Bag n al Anglican Bishop of Niagara paid his first official visit to Georgetown and Glen Williams on Sunday officiating at confirmations. In St George's the large congregation welcomed their new bishop. A big confirmation class of adults and many youths were admitted. Bishop Bag n als sermon urged emulating St Luke. Over 600 spectators attended Friday GRE hockey night marking season opening with five games. Canadi en team defeated Maple Leafs 4 2, Leonard Ballbantaa Go pk y presented by Jack Armstrong to Hershey Bears. Barrie edged Marlboros for PeeWee title, Marlboros beat St Kitts 4 0 for Novice crown, Reds beat Mike's Blues for girls title. Thomas Ellenton, blind since birth and long a Georgetown resident, died in Brampton on Tuesday March 21. Born in Erin Township in 1863, he was the last surviving member of the Ellenton family. He wove baskets and made intricate crafts at home on Main Street and lived with his niece later in life. Archdeacon Thompson conducted the funeral at McClure Funeral Home with pallbearers named from the Ellenton circle. interment followed in Erin Cemetery.

Georgetown resident William Miller died Sunday March 19 at Sunnybrook Hospital. A Scot born in Arnieve, Kintardine, Perthshire, he came to Canada in 1914 and served in the Canadian Army during the war. He later worked at Alliance Paper Mill and the Provincial mill and was golf course superintendent. Survived by his wife Annie Fisher and one brother David Thornhill Scotland, he was interred in Greenwood Cemetery after a funeral at McClure Funeral Home.
Two young men from China studying at the University of Toronto spoke at a Lions Club meeting last Tuesday, sharing interesting information about their country with club members.
William G. Gordon Norrie died in Toronto last Saturday. He was brother of Steve Norrie of town and husband of Hazel Scott of Limehouse. Funeral service was held yesterday. The Pee Wee and Novice All Stars depart for the tournament in Guelph at 8:30 Saturday morning. For help with a year, call Rev. J. L. Salt at 244 r2.
Reports show Lorreise Pitts, little daughter of Mr and Mrs Hillis who operate the former, attending a kindergarten gathering on Monday.
