Fire at John Grain’s Hornby area farm last Wednesday night destroyed a barn and its contents including seventeen sheep, two pigs, two litters, hay, straw, and grain. Neighbors Jeto Wilson and Tom Scott helped rescue cattle as Milton firefighters responded after 11 PM while Georgetown crews were unavailable.
John Doyle Kelly of Albert Street Georgetown died March 3 in hospital. A former councillor for Ward 2, he served on the public school board in the thirties, was town clerk and treasurer 1953 to 1957, a Justice of the Peace, and led Branch 120 Canadian Legion in 1930. Born in Charlottetown PE, he worked in construction, oil exploration, and paper before settling in Georgetown. He leaves a wife Shirley and five children along with eleven grandchildren. He was predeceased by three brothers and a sister.
A folk Mass for youth was sung at St George's Anshean on a Sunday afternoon with a Mary hymn and a Mary piece used in communion. Youth from St Alen's Wakville played guitars and organ while Rev William Anthony and Rector Eric Mills led the service. Afterward coffee and simnel cake were served in the parish hall. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery with three sons two sons in law and neighbor William Hyde as pallbearers.

Carol Mills, a Georgetown District High School alumna, graduated from Ryerson Polytechnic Institute on January 20 in the business administration course. She now lives at 100 Gloucester Street, Toronto, daughter of Austin and Mrs. Mills. Works as a market research analyst in Canada's InM Ltd data processing division.
Detroit Myr. Metal A Division champions edged Richmond Hill North End Cleaners 7 4 to win the Grand Championship in the 8th annual Bantam hockey thon. Mark Howe, son of a hockey great, starred with four goals and MVP honors as Detroit Clyr Metal claimed the top prize amid a festive week of games, signings, and community support.
