Stewarttown Hall hosted a public speaking contest from Esquesing Township schools with eleven speakers. Lois McNabb of Stewarttown School won, JoAnn McKeown and David Reynolds of Glen Williams placed second and third, advancing to the Inspectorate finals at Wrigglesworth School on March 19.

Five Contest Speaking Honours Friday Night
Five Georgetown public schools named their representatives for the inspectorate public speaking finals to be held at the Howard Wilcox school auditorium Friday night. Lyn Wyllie from Crade Chapel Street Public and Janet Riggs from Grade 8 were runners-up in their respective contests judged by Rev Norman Young and staff. Clive Lewellyn, a Grade 7 student, won the Howard Wrigglesworth finals with Bonnie Ingils as runner-up. Judges included Farley Helfant and Janice Emmerson at Harrison Public School, with Park Public School selecting Rite Timms and Beth Young as runner-ups in March events. George Kennedy Public School chose Marilyn Mackenzie with Ann Melcombe as runner-up. judges included Barrister Terry Baines, Rev Kelvin Johnston, and John Todd.

Fly West to Funeral of Brother in Alberta
Mr and Mrs Fred Lyons Terra Cotta travelled by plane to attend the funeral service for his brother George Lyons who died on February 20. They were accompanied by Mr and Mrs Jim Eccles Jr on the trip. George Lyons nearing his 73rd birthday was born in Chinguacousy Township Lot 24 Sth Line.

West. He was the son of W. G. Lyons and Georgina Mercer. He homesteaded at Ryley Alberta and operated a cable ranch. His wife Ada Broad died in 1954. He leaves four children Fred Edward and Murray of Ryley and Nora Edwards of Fort Saskatchewan, 14 grandchildren, a brother Vared and sister Miles Mary Lyons Finn. Blessing Mass Opens New RC Church in Georgetown
A large turnout attended the blessing of Georgetown's Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, a 700 seat building on Maple Ave West. Bishop J. Cars crash at Culvert Curve injures property in $200s
A 1964 Dodge driven by Ed Bell and a 1987 Ford driven by John Hulme collided at a sharp curve north of the John St culvert on Wednesday March 10. Police report both were west and eastbound respectively and property damage exceeded $200. Dan Martin investigated at 2 p.m. The Georgetown department had only minor prior cases that day.

Crash damages total in Huttonville two-car incidents
There were two separate two car crashes in Huttonville on Monday and Tuesday night. One at Five Sideroad and Fourth Line West involved Neil Crajkowaki of Weston and Charles Coburn of Georgetown with $300 damage and slippery roads from overnight snow. The other crash near a private driveway involved Lois Fraser of Wattonville and Ralph Ursel of Georgetown with $1,000 damage and no injuries.
