Engineer Son Killed in Argentine Mine Accident
John Maybin Girvan, BSc P Eng, son of Brig and Mrs J P Girvan of Wildwood, died instantly January 28 in a rockfall at El Aguilar Argentina where he supervised a mine. Born January 18 1919 in Toronto, he graduated from the University of Toronto in March 1940 and served as an instructor with OTC. He later worked in mine hygiene research and as superintendent in Argentina. He leaves his wife Josephine Hamilton and daughter Sheila. He was active in the Royal Canadian Military Institute and other engineering and university groups.

Joe Weaver 85 a horse trainer and avid rider died February 23 at his Glen Williams home and was buried at Glen Williams cemetery. Born in England in 1914 he joined hunt clubs and later settled in Ontario. survived by four children and two sisters. Funeral at Harold C. McClure Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Kenneth Richardson with pallbearers named.

Fire destroys barn on J. E. Brown Farm
A large barn on J. E. Brown’s Milton area farm six miles south of Norval was destroyed by fire yesterday at noon while the owners were away. Brown’s son called Georgetown Fire Dept. but Milton responders took over. the barn on lot 5, 10th line was empty and the house occupant was away. The grass fire at Deltex subdivision had been contained by a work crew before firefighters arrived.

Four year old Bradford Kells injured in city accident
Four year old Bradford Kells son of Mr and Mrs Ronald Kells of 20 Cleavehalm Drive was brought to St Josephs Hospital Guelph after a Friday afternoon crash at No 99 Main St North. He suffered concussion torn ligaments in left shoulder and leg injuries when he darted into the path of a northbound vehicle from the boulevard near Henry Howlett Rockton. The driver braked but could not avoid the collision. The boy received examination by Dr Alis at hospital.

The event featured a roll call, readings of old minutes, membership awards, a litter bug contest, songs, and a cinema-style program with film of Butchart Gardens and the Rockies.
