Seek Better Quarters For Halton Children's Aid
Halton County Children's Aid seeks better quarters after a grand jury report and Halton Judge Alan B. Sprague criticized the current Milton Hugh Street building as cramped. Dr. Gordon Askwith, CAS director, says more space for staff and administrative work is needed and interviews can’t occur in the small hall. The health unit agrees the facility is inadequate and the CAS plans to stay if possible despite space constraints.

Kelso Scout Jamboree Feeds 3000 Scouts At Mill Town Camp
Three thousand Scouts attend the first Quarter Jamboree at Kelso Conservation Area near Milton on August 17. A giant supermarket will dispense over 1000 cases of canned goods and 20000 quarts of milk for meals, with 60000 paper plates and 63 thousand paper cups used for sanitary service.

Leon Weinstein appointed president of Loblaw Groceterias Co Limited and will retain his posts as president of Power Super Markets Limited and Busy B Discount Food Markets. Weinstein, long a marketing innovator, aims to modernize Loblaw with new store services lines and stronger consumer credibility. He started in the Toronto grocery trade as a youth, opened Power Supermarket in 1933, and became Power president in 1953. today Power and Busy B count 39 supermarkets.

The Lindsay families held a Sunday picnic at the home of Mr and Mrs Thomas Carberry in Mono Centre with Mr Robert Lindsay and Miss Barbara Lindsay among honored guests. Distant visitors included Sir George Pearson and the Spillanes. Wedding wishes go to William Elliott and Lillian Brown at Limehouse Presbyterian Church. Granddaughter Beverley Langille attended a golden wedding in Nova Scotia. Church events at Limehouse Presbyterian include a congregational picnic on June 23 and communion services on June 16. WMS met at Mrs K C Lindsay’s home with readings and prayers. A request for winter clothing and large dresses was made. The Spitzer-Peers wedding in Willowdale United Church and reception at the Marmony German Canadian Club in Sherbourne was noted.

Church Women Aid Kenyan Education Through Donations
The June meeting of St. Andrew's United Church Women at Mountainview Road and Sinclair Avenue drew twenty members for a pot luck supper and games. President Mrs. Florence Baker led a brief business session planning a fall bazaar while a letter from Mr. Kamau highlighted Miss Audrey McKim's Kenya education work and aid efforts. After summer recess, the group will reconvene September 11.
