The Toronto Safety Supply Company demoed the Goodner model resuscitator for drowning, smoke, gas, and other cases at the Fire Brigade request. Council approved a $600 purchase, noting doctors and police would also use it.
Marjorie McEnery daughter of Mr and Mrs John McEnery Georgetown marries Kenneth Allan son of Mr and Mrs John Allan Acton on June 7 at St Johns United Church. Rev John McSemith officiates as guests from Hamilton Guelph Galt Erin Acton Toronto Eden Mills and other communities attend.
Mrs Norman Cameron of Brampton addressed Terra Cotta Women's Institute on Citizenship Day duties and the meaning of good citizenship. The June 12 meeting at Mrs Wes Rutledge's home featured the institute motto, a host of readings, a country quiz, and a presentation to departing teacher Mrs Tait.
Fred Hue of Main Street North was hospitalized at Guelph hospital after a Sunday morning crash on King Street. His eastbound car swerved into a ditch near the cemetery, leaving facial cuts on the leg. He is to return home today.
Mrs. Bob Hardman received a past president’s pin as thanks for her two years of service with the Boy Scout Ladies Auxiliary. The presentation occurred during a chicken dinner Saturday at the Fairview Inn. Guests included Mrs. Don Hutchinson Mrs. Fred Masterman and Mrs. John M. Smith.
Pearl Eileen Webster Lullice and Edger Palmer Eyres married at St Johns United Church parsonage Georgetown officiated by Rev John M Smith on June 22. The couple will reside at 48 Camerd Road Buffalo New York after a reception at the Estarul net and a motor trip to New York.
Georgetown man Dick Riddall assumes ownership of the former Georgetown Motors garage at Main and Guelph Street, operating as Dick Madelall Motors. He plans to continue ties with the Wearever Company and keeps Max Bradbury and Lorne Klingbeil on staff. He and his wife Anne Wall, with sons Keot and Wayne, reside on Ostrander Boulevard.
Twenty members and a visitor met at Mrs. H. Marchington's home as Mrs. Ernie Miller led the Silver-Wood Women's Institute. They opened a $1 per baby bank account, Janet Elizabeth Henderson receiving the first book and deposit. A layette project and a 12 bicycle stand for Stone School were discussed, plus plans for future picnics and fund-raising at the Toronto world convention.
Mrs George KB Loud suffered a severe stroke on Sunday and died at her Main Street North home. A Dev onshire native, she came to Canada with daughters, worked through war years sending clothing overseas, and built a Georgetown grocery with daughter Dorothy Swan. She survived by five daughters and seventeen grandchildren. funeral at St George’s Anglican Church with interment at Greenwood Cemetery.

Georgetown Midgets defeated Carlisle 10-1 on Saturday in a strong team effort. Pitcher Ron Ritchie worked the full game with Bob Webster catching, while Tom Palmer, Ron Breen and Jim Timlock led the offense. Carlisle's Eaton started, Fetter caught, and Ford relieved in the seventh. Future games are listed versus Carlisle and Waterdown.
Three new teachers will join Georgetown public school next September with the opening of the Howard Wrigglesworth School on the highway. Principal designations include Mr. William Kirade Jr A from Preston and Mrs. Harold Henry full-time kindergarten principal.
Mrs J A Marshall of Port Elgin visits with son Valon and daughter in law William Fleming and Miss Shirley McCleHan from Straf ord visits her uncle and aunt Frank and Mrs Petch. Mrs Bo Saunders sails to Glenwood Beach for summer. Lions Don Barrager and Harry Holnes attended the District Convention in London. William Roshier Ontario Sr returns from Guelph General Hospital after an operation. Mr and Mrs Ted Wahl hosted weekend guests Eric Waddington and family from Toronto. Wilfrid Hunter and wife spent weekend in Huntsville with plans to operate Valleyview Cabins and he will join Mer in August. Lorne Scots Officers' formal in Brampton includes several Barbers and Cousens. Evans, Mary and Barbara, and Mrs William Frank visited Stratford for the Kennedy reunion with Rev Peter McFarlane guest speaker. Mrs A Burnett and Ian stay with her mother Mrs W Bowman while Mr Burnett travels east. Bowman has had a successful operation and hopes to return home in fall. Before marrying Edgar P Eyres of Buffalo, Mrs Pear Lillico received gifts from friends and organizations. Eyres served offices in Verdun Rebekah Lodge and is past district deputy president of Toronto Centre District No. 11. On May 20 a Rebekah emblem pendant was presented. Past Noble Grand Club and Gite Club hosted her with gifts including a Jordanus van der Vilet oil painting.
A one year old boy James Keith Ellison, a Georgetown Public School kindergartner, drowned after slipping from a bridge at Papermill Dam. Neighbors and his parents, Neil and his wife, aided by Tom Wylie, assisted in the rescue attempt before firemen and hydro workers could revive him. Funeral services were held at McClure Funeral Home with interment in Greenwood Cemetery.
The May 11 ceremony at Union Presbyterian Church in Violet Leslie Dick's union with Harveys Russell McDowell of Rosemont was officiated by former Georgetown minister Hex C Cochrane, assisted by Rev. G. L. Royal. The wedding featured daisies and mauve violets, and the couple will live on the groom’s Rosemont farm after a wedding trip to Indiana. The bride is a former staff member of the Montreal Victorian Order of Nurses.
Thirty members of Verdun Rebekah Lodge traveled to Toronto to honor two members with the degree of Chivalry the orders highest decoration for service. Mrs Syd Mackenzie and Mrs Stafford Groat accepted the honor at the Royal York Hotel during the memorial and opening services of the Rebekah Assembly. Mrs A C McBride and Mrs Alf Colling stayed in Toronto as lodge representatives for the three day assembly.
