National President Addresses Local Council of Women

National President Mrs J B Mackenzie addressed Georgetown Local Council of Women on June 5 at Mrs H L Hutt’s home. Guests from Moncton and St John shared remarks after an International Council of Women report. Tea followed as thanks were given for the host’s hospitality.

Junior Plowing Match at Drumquin

The annual Junior Farmer Plowing Match for juniors under 21, sponsored by the Halton Plowmen's Association, was held on W. S. Alderson’s Drumquin farm Friday. Fewer competitors due to late season and dry soil, but strong ridges were shown by Ivan Taylor, Gordon Leslie, Angus McNabb, and others. champion ridge by Ivan Traylor of Moffat.

John D. Kelly Elected to Lions Club Presidency

At the Georgetown Lions Club meeting in the MicGibbon Hotel on Monday officers for 1939-40 were elected. John D. Kelly will serve as President with J. S. Ballantine as 1st Vice President and W. S. King as Vice President. H. C. McClure’s role as Deputy District Governor was noted for the district’s Zone 6.

Zone 26 Church Parade of Canadian Legion Held at Georgetown

Large turnout from Acton Alton Erin Milton Hillsburg Brampton and Georgetown for the Zone 26 Legion parade. The march formed at the Legion Hall led by the Scots Band to the cenotaph where a wreath was laid and the Last Post played followed by two minutes of silence and Reveille.

Sectional Rally W MS to Be Held at Bethel Church

The eastern Sectional Rally of Halton Presbyterial W MS United Church will meet June 22 at Bethel Church Trafalgar township with morning and afternoon sessions. Speakers include Mrs J S Flatt Dundas and Mrs J W Chapman Burlington and a panel by Mrs R W Clements Milton. Luncheon served by Bethel Ladies. A lawn party is planned for Friday afternoon June 3 at the OAC Guelph with Dominion Board delegate reports.

Sidney Silver Weds Lucille Kalant in Garden Wedding

In Chudleigh House gardens on Sunday June 4, Lucille Kalant daughter of Mrs Kalant and the late S Kalant of Toronto married Sidney Silver son of Mr and Mrs H Sylver of Georgetown. The bride wore pale blue silk marquisette and rose lilies with Ruth Shankman as attendant. Best man was Mr Nathan Silver. After a reception the couple planned a wedding trip to New York and the Eastern States then reside in Orillis.

Ontario Medical Assoc. Convention at Hamilton 1930s

The Ontario Division of the Canadian Medical Association held its annual meeting at the Royal Connaught Hotel Hamilton with Hamilton Academy of Medicine hosting. Noted speakers included Dr Arthur Hertzler and Sir Frederick Banting. events included luncheons garden parties and sessions with physicians from the United States. Attendees came from Port Williams Montreal and Ottawa among others.

Trees Planted on St. George's Church Grounds

To commemorate the visit of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth to Canada four Colorado spruce trees were planted at St. George's Church of England. Rev W G O Thompson led services with the Georgetown Citizens Band in attendance. A prayer, hymns, and Psalm readings opened the event followed by a formal planting by Cecil Davidson and a musical program in the church basement with refreshments.

Halton Conservatives Elect Officers at Milton Meeting

Dr Cartl Martin of Milton was unanimously elected president of the Conservative Association of Halton at the annual Milton gathering. Officers include vice presidents R K Slater of Oakville and Mrs E J Hallett of Oakville, secretary F Bruce Pitegerald of Milton, and Chats Leatherland of Acton as treasurer. A motion approved changing the name to Conservative Association of the County of Halton.

Holstein Field Day Draws Large Crowd at Eden Mills

The Halton and Peel Holstein Breeders hosted a Saturday field day and picnic at Edgewood Park Eden Mills attracting over 600 attendees. Program included speeches by M P P T A Blakelock and M M Robinson, judging by Prof Geo Raithby, and prizes in Ladies Open Junior Partners and Calf classes along with sports for all ages.

County Engineer Discusses Paving With Council

Town Council met on Tuesday evening with Mayor Gibbons in the chair and all members present. Minutes were read and confirmed. The county engineer Mr Routh attended as paying agent. Requests were heard for assistance to the Baseball Club and for a grant to the Sick Children hospital. The council approved grants of 350 dollars to the Baseball Club and 11434 dollars to the Relief Commission. The True Blue Lodge of Georgetown was granted a tag day on July 8. Several accounts were passed for future publication.

Toronto Presbyterial Section Two Holds 24th Annual Meeting

The 24th annual Section Two gathering of the Toronto Presbyterial WMU met at Norval Presbyterian Church on a Tuesday last week. Mrs Nixon of Milton chaired the session with delegates from Georgetown, Limehouse, Norval, Union, Boston and Omagh, Streetsville, Milton, Brampton, and more. The theme Home Foundation guided Scripture readings prayers and hymns throughout the day.

Milton Extended to Defeat Georgetown in Ten Innings

Milton defeats Georgetown 8 to 7 in ten innings at Milton after surrendering a three run lead in the eighth. Brydon started for Milton, backed by strong outfield plays, while Clement held Georgetown to four hits over three innings to seal the win.

Annual Piano Recital by Miss Dickie’s Pupils at Public School

The annual recital by Miss Margaret Dickie’s pupils was held in the Public School hall on Friday evening June 2. Assisting artist Miss Margaret Gallagher delighted with selections. many pupils performed in order of appearance including Mary Woods and Elizabeth Baxter.
