Georgetown council approved a second fire engine purchase from American Marsh Co for 18700 dollars. The GMC chassis will be supplied by Scott Motors with the rest of the vehicle assembled locally in Stratford and will serve the town’s fire protection needs.
Georgetown Lawn Bowlers opened the season on Saturday June 2 with strong turnout and a light luncheon. The men's doubles begin Monday June 4 and run weekly, while the ladies start Tuesday June 6. A five rink round robin involves Acton Georgetown Rockwood Guelph with matches from June 6 to June 27. Membership urged for both divisions with Mrs Jack Williamson president and Claude Kentner leading the men.
David Cooper of HMCS Portage, Halifax, spends leave at home and will remain in Hamilton for the summer as his ship conducts a recruiting drive. His mother Mrs. George Cooper recovers from illness in St. Josephs Hospital Guelph. The Coopers plan to move into a new home by fall. Nearby, a double birthday party celebrated Betty June Norton age 7 and Bobby Norton age 4 with games and lunch for relatives and friends.
Mogt Worshipful Bro Elias Grey Past Grand Master of Ontario West addressed LOL 68 in Stewarttown with visitors from Hornby and Milton lodges. He spoke on Orange Insurance and military lodges in the Great War and World War II noting 1915 Military Warrant No 1 9 in French trenches and nightly meetings during off days. Several French villages marked 12th of July celebrations first time. Other speakers included W Bro J Morrison and W Bro Frank Jenkinson with County Master Ernie Wilson and PCM Lew Sampson.
Georgetown’s community swimming pool will not open on schedule unless 18000 is raised to complete a 50000 project. Directors headed by Dick Licata report 32000 in cash and pledges has been spent. A new canvass and volunteers are sought, with donations accepted at local banks.
A three hour council session on Swanek subdivision roads left a plan to proceed with road work while storm sewer questions were shelved. Finlay Munro insisting he is only obligated to Swanek Bros and not the town. The engineer urged waiting for heavy rain to assess drainage and roads.
The May average highs and lows were 62 and 40 degrees, three degrees below normal. The month peaked at 86 on May 30 and dipped to 25 on May 25, with 17 rainy days totaling 4.61 inches, and varied conditions including thunderstorms, strong winds, humidity, and a snowstorm.
Rotarians met at Fairview Inn for a regular dinner session on Monday June 4 with guests Mr. Percy Reed of Regina and Percy Harrison town. Reid spoke on Rotary ties noting Winnipeg’s 1917 club formation as the first outside the United States and the Rotary International launch. Harness racing drew praise for the season track quality, plans for a future meet were approved, and the final director meeting is set for June 25 inviting members to bring wives.
Ninety five Fendley descendants gathered at Ferndale Park for a reunion honoring William Fendley and Amy Dale. Activities included races a picnic supper and movies. Walter Fendley of Huttonville was elected president with Ann Widdis Brampton named secretary.
Halton Chapter Royal Arch Masons led by Lew Tracey attended the evening song at St George's Anglican Church. Lodge members Jack Armstrong and Irwin Noble read lessons and Rev Kenneth Richardson preached on brotherhood with a Masonic theme.

Police Chief Roy Haley accompanied by Mrs. Haley visited Windsor last Thursday and Friday for the Police Chiefs convention. Chiefs and their spouses were hosted by Windsor and heard lectures on policing methods, traffic control, and training. The ladies enjoyed tours to border cities and social events during the conference.
Mrs. Vo Rawson and Mrs. Rupert Beaumont organized the W A and L A sponsored event in the Sunday School room of Knox Church on Friday June 1. The sale was very successful and drew community support.
The Halton County Loyal Orange Lodge annual church parade was held on Sunday June 3 in Milton. Members from Oakville Milton Campbellville Hornby Acton StewART town and Georgetown lodges LOBA Oakville and visitors from LOL 76 Campbell's Cross LOL 358 Carlisle and Hamilton lodges attended. Rev J W Mills of Toronto preached on the three essentials of Protestant Faith at St Pauls United Church before the Trafalgar Bugle Band led a parade through Milton streets.
Mr and Mrs Allen Norrie and their young daughter have moved to the village and are residing in a house owned by Mr and Mrs Robert Rogers. Mrs Glynn Sr of Ancaster has been visiting the Glynns recently. Mrs E Karn and Mrs Chas James are mentioned.
Marilyn Patton of Waterloo was a weekend visitor in town with L Lyon. Mr. and Mrs. Burton Macdonald and Joyce visited relatives in Owen Sound and Wiarton for a few days last week. Mrs. Lindsay Mercer and Jane and John of Kansas City Missouri visited at her sister’s home Mr. and Mrs. Wilf Ford Maple Ave for a few days this week. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Rolfe and Madeline and their grandson John of Hamilton visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Alf Rolfe. Mr. and Mrs. A Pattenden Mr F Pattenden Beryle Pattenden George Beeney and Brian James spent last Sunday in Orangeville. Miss Joan DeVries spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Paul Barber at their cottage in Port Carling. Joan is convalescing from a foot operation. Mr. William Trafford Ottawa spent a few days in town this week with his son Nelson and family at 14 Roxway Drive. Mrs. Kevin McAuley and her son Tony left Monday from Malton airport for Dublin Ireland where she will spend the summer with her family. Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Clark Beverly and Don of Wyoming were weekend visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Garfield McGilvray. Mr. and Mrs. George Heaver Robin and Glenna of Oakville called on Sunday. Mrs. Ed Johnston of Vancouver BC has been a guest of Mrs. S. B. Groat and Mrs. Aileen Bradley Victoria Street. Mrs. S. C. MacKenzie and Mrs. Frank Miller of Ancaster were guests on Tuesday to attend the initiation at Verdun Rebekah Lodge Tuesday evening.
Mr and Mrs F LaVerne Thompson announce the engagement of their daughter Dorothy Jane to Gordon Alexander Coyne son of Mrs Coyne Brampton and the late Alexander J Coyne. The marriage will be held at Union Presbyterian Church on Saturday June 30 at 3 p.m.
