Isabella L. Hume Passes After Lingering Illness
Isabella L. Hume died after a seventeen year illness at her Georgetown home. Eldest daughter of the late George and Elizabeth Hume, she was born in Exsquesing Township and moved to Georgetown in 1914. She was a Knox Presbyterian Church member active in the Women’s Missionary Society, recently made a life member. Funeral held at home on Tuesday, July 3th, with six cousins as pallbearers. she is buried beside her parents in Greenwood Cemetery.

Last Wednesday evening the ladies of Norval and vicinity gathered at Mrs. W G M Browne's home to honor bride Mrs Lorne Wardlaw. Mrs Browne gave the address as guests admired gifts from a pink basket and messages read by Mrs Joe Harris. A contest titled Merchants of Brampton preceded lunch served by the hostess and helpers Joy Laird Joe Harris and Ray Pomeroy.

Military Funeral for Samuel Hurst
Samuel Hurst died at his summer home on Tuesday July 23 and was buried with military honours last Thursday. He served in France with the 204th Battalion as a sergeant and was a member of the Canadian Legion. Surviving family includes two brothers, two sisters, a widow, and a son in Hollywood. Funeral conducted by Branch 120 Canadian Legion with Last Post played by Bugler Charles Landsborough. burial in Greenwood Cemetery Georgetown.

Anne of Windy Poplars stars Anne Shirley and James Ellison and was produced by RKO Radio. The note hopes R. L. Gregory will book it locally for Georget owners to see the work of a former resident.

Knox Garden Party Draws Good Crowd
A Knox Church garden party hosted by Mrs. William A. McClure drew about four hundred guests. The Guelph Kiltie Band and Russ Creighton’s Variety Entertainers performed with Wee Clara Pelly, Donald Spence, Betty Bryant, and Loraine Hills delivering acts. Some acts were canceled due to risqué material, but the event overall was well received and enjoyed by attendees.

Training scheme to draft 300000 men in Canada begins
The House of Commons announced a 30 day training plan under the national defense act starting next October. 300000 young men will be trained in groups of 30000 at camps across the Dominion with pay of 1.20 a day.
