Industrial Residential Gap Widens in Georgetown Assessment

Georgetown council received the annual assessment report showing a 4 million dollar increase driven by new construction and a shift to 73.5 percent residential. Population rose to 14,528 with many vacant parcels noted in Wards 1 2 and 3. The town approved two six story apartment suites by Aler Investments on Mountain View Road and discussed traffic lights cost estimates and sewer expansion plans.

Sheridan College Snoopy Prize Float Tops Lions Santa Parade

Sheridan College students built the Snoopy and Red Baron float that won the Georgetown Lions Trophy for best float in the Santa Parade. The paper mache figures and Red Baron plane were student crafted with no faculty help, a month of work by thirteen art students. Santa distributed candy at Market and Mil Street after a lengthy parade featuring many community groups and bands.

Halton County Catholic Separate School Board forms on Dec 9

The Halton County Catholic Separate School Board begins from four boards and 40 trustees. In Burlington the inaugural meeting elected Peter Waters of Oakville as chairman over Dr Leno Braids. The 14 trustees planned committees and a monthly meeting date set for January 21. Meetings will be open to the public.

Burlington Board Names New View Chair and CEO

Nomination by Robert OBrien and Joh Visser results in Hourlyan as view chair with Burlington lawyer and former chairman leading over Oakville’s Braldu. James Hogan named chief executive officer. Visser elected chair, Bralda and Tonelli among others, next meeting set for December 18 at the Burlington board office.

Holiday Heralds Schedule Change For Christmas Week

The Herald will advance two holiday weeks due to Wednesday Christmas and New Year. The December 26 and January 1 issues move earlier to Monday evening each week, with normal time resuming later. Readers should submit news and ads early. next three datelines are Thursday December 10, Tuesday December 24, and Tuesday December 31.

Georgetown Rotarians fete town seniors with turkey and music

For the thirteenth year Georgetown Rotary Club hosted a pre Christmas party for senior citizens at Knox Church hall. One hundred forty guests enjoyed turkey dessert and gifts in appreciation of their service. Fourteen Radical Car Club members attended as dinner guests and helped transport attendees. Mayor elect Steamer Emimer son hosted the event for the tenth year. Entertainers included Tom Trouten with Helen Burns and Patricia, Vera Smith with Jack Ferguson, and ballet dancer Veronica Nemeth. Santa Claus appeared in disguise.

Armitage Elected First Chairman of New Halton Board

Fred Armitage former Burlington Board of Education chair won the inaugural vote for chairman of the Halton County Board of Education. He led with 12 votes to Douglas Wood's 8 as Oakville trustee Liberty Pease declined to run. The four hour meeting covered hiring procedures for a director or assistant superintendent and set terms for the chairman and two vice chairmen.

Sixty-One First Time Donors at Georgetown Blood Clinic

Georgetown Red Cross reports 61 first time donors among 325 participants at Holy Cross Auditorium Monday. Total donations reached 341 with 16 rejections. 23 of the first timers were aged 17 18 and may donate after weight checks. The four clinics this year yielded 1227 donations, 147 from first timers, vs 1216 in 1987. Next clinics are planned for 1969 on March 10 June 0 September 8.
