In a high turnout municipal election on Monday December 7 Joseph Gibbons defeated Harold Cleave by 19 votes to continue as mayor for a tenth year. Norman H. Brown led the reeveship race by 65 votes over James Costigan as 1035 total ballots were cast. Ward I elected councillorsBradley Hall and Eason with Bradley leading at 314 votes. Leonard Bell and James Goodier ran for council for the first time, while Thomas Lyons and K R MacDonald maintained seats with Lyons seeking continued service.

Gertrude Hill Dies in Glen Williams Village
Gertrude M Hill a Glen Williams resident died at home after an illness at Glen Williams. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Ut Albus Church of Rogland with W G O Thompson conducting. She was born in Connahs Quay North Wales in 187? to the late blur y and John Heath. She came to Canada in 1904 and settled in Glen Williams where she lived for many years. Surviving are two sons Uncle Hil and Inaune Hil, sisters Mrs Norton and Mrs W Hadley both of Glen Williams and Mrs C Byrnon of Krampon. Also numerous relatives and friends. Interment followed in Glen Williams Cemetery.

Soldier Killed on Highway Early Sunday Morning
A soldier, Pte Hector Pater Dupont of No 24 Army Training Centre Brampton, was fatally struck by a hit and run driver on No 7 highway near Armstrong Garage Guelph. He was hitch-hiking home to Pembroke when a car traveling east hit him from behind. the driver fled. Coroner Dr. Geo E. Byer will hold a inquest. The incident sparked a local inquiry and a brief wartime relief gesture at the Geor Viewunk Womens Institute meeting, which also voted funds for Soldiers' Comforts.
