Downtown Parking Debate Nears Enforcement Start

At the Monday council meeting merchants pressed for two hour parking enforcement downtown. Mayor Armstrong and officials discussed changing Friday Saturday limits to match shopping hours and relettering signs. A property transfer dispute with Beaver Ready Mix raised right of way concerns. The town will inspect the site Saturday and draft a by law for future property transfers. Twelve sand boxes for dangerous hill locations were approved with a $300 estimate and tender bids requested.

Montague Merryday Long Army Career

Montague Merryday of Glen Williams died peacefully visiting East Farnham Quebec. Born 1870 in Malvern Wells England he served in the 126th Battalion CEF overseas and in Canada before retiring from the permanent force. He was warden at St Alban’s Church and is buried at Glen Williams Cemetery with pallbearers named.

The Willing Velpers of Glen United Church elected officers for the 1956 term at a December meeting hosted by Mrs. Wm Everson with ten members present. Leaders include Mrs Ber Dixon president and Mrs Roy Norton Jr vice president, with Mrs John Wagstaffe secretary and treasurer duties by Mrs Fred Engleby. The group planned candlelight services on December 18 and carol singing on December 15, inviting all. Mr George Eason and the Felkers visited Georgetown friends the Bennetts.

Mother Dies in St Marys After Sudden Heart Attack

Mrs L L Follick 70 of R R 3 St Marys died suddenly in St Marys last Wednesday from a heart attack. A native of St Marys she was active in United Church ladies groups and connected with Dunsford Ingersoll and area. She was predeceased by her husband a dentist and by her son Dr Frederick Yollick a dentist who died three years ago. Funeral held in St Marys on Friday.

Name on Ballot But Candidate Won't Run

In Georgetown elections next Monday a candidate’s name will appear on the ballot though he declines the office after qualification. Ray Whitmee, former councillor, says personal business affairs prevent him from standing. Returning officer John D. Kelly cannot omit the name, and a new nomination would be needed if Whitmee is elected. Jacqueline Addis, related to Mrs Cordaro, is visiting Cheltenham, England, with the Cordaro couple.

Lodge Initiates Five Candidates in Georgetown Meeting

At the regular meeting of 9 Orion Lodge No 309 in Georgetown on Monday five candidates took the initiatory degree. They were Chester Stevens, Robert Simson, Lester Norris, Jack Stoddart, and John Brown. The first degree ceremony was observed for Monday December 19.
