Georgetown electors chose Mayor Harold Cleave over Joseph Gibbons by 103 votes as 1043 ratepayers cast ballots. Ward 3 re elected Cr. W. Orr with 230 votes, edging Dr. Thos. L. Lyons by 3. Jim Freestone and other council incumbents returned, while wartime service stories highlighted local resident Jim Freestone.

Resident Dies in Everett Funeral for Mrs. Alex Leslie Held
The funeral of Mrs. Alex Leslie of Everett and former Glen Williams resident was held Tuesday at the Everett Church of England. She died at age 48 after an operation and a relapse two weeks earlier. She leaves a husband two children aged 15 and 8 and her niece Mrs. Clarence Kennedy who was raised by her aunt.

Alexander F. Gregory Dies in 88th Year
Alexander Ferguson Gregory died at his daughter’s home on Monday in his 88th year after long illness. A Georgetown resident for 25 years and former Alliance Paper Mills Limited employee, he was born in Schomberg and married Hannah Gienn of Hagersville. A Salvation Army member for 45 years, he leaves a daughter Zetta and granddaughter Arolyn, plus a brother and nieces. Funeral conducted by Major Sanford with Rev R G Todd at Greenwood Cemetery.

Mrs H W Kennedy mourns the death of her daughter Margaret who died at their Toronto home a week and a half ago and was buried in Greenwood Cemetery here last Wednesday. A brilliant student at local schools she later served as Secretary to the Dean of the Women’s College of Victoria University. The service in Toronto was by Rev Dr Organ and at the grave by Rev R C Todd.

Strange Cargo: Flight Carries 26 Babies in Eight Gigantic Load
Flight from Chicoutimi to Chicoutimi overnight carried 26 infants none older than five months in a surprising cargo. Stewardess Joan Garland reported the babies slept soundly after takeoff and caused no disturbances. Pilot Art Leach and First Officer Gordon Alexander noted a bit more static than usual but no issues with the children.

Pte. Edward B. Shortill of the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry was awarded the Canadian Efficiency Medal with First Clasp for lengthy service and perfect conduct.
