Georgetown musician Gene Roshler, 19, was injured when his car collided with another on Main Street and Dufferin Street. He suffered a ruptured spleen, broken left leg, internal injuries, and was taken to Georgetown District Memorial Hospital. Police say Roshler’s westbound vehicle turned left into the northbound car of George Scholz, 20, as Roy Henderson assessed damages at $750. Roshler’s condition was reported as progressing nicely by his mother.
Georgetown Lions and Fire Department prepare for the annual Santa Claus parade set for Saturday December 10 with 40 units including a flying saucer and a centennial float. Volunteers will bag 2,000 candies on December 8, hot chocolate at the end, and proceeds from Christmas fowl tickets and a Lions dance on December 9 fund the event. Bell head of Appleby College Oakville and executives from Canada Packers Ltd Canadian Meter Company and iSteel Canada Ltd with educators and municipal officials completing the panel.
A 17 year old Georgetown District High School student fractured her right leg in a collision with a car on Guelph Street. The girl rode a 1966 motorcycle when Edwin Shortill backed from a driveway at No 6. The accident happened about 1 30 pm and hospital officials say she is in good condition. Police report ongoing investigation.
Clifford Soper 50 an employee of Beardmore Tannery in Acton died at Guelph General Hospital on November 22. He was born in Georgetown and spent his youth there before farming at Barrie then moving to Acton. He leaves brothers Cecil Georgetown Gordon Acton and sister Norma Mrs Richard Forster Georgetown. Funeral at Harold C. McClure Funeral Home conducted by Rev S M Thoman. Bearers were Garnet Clarkson and five cousins. Interment Cheltenham Cemetery.
