The Halton region public works committee authorized a real estate agent fee of 3420 for listing and sale of surplus Stewarttown property at 57000 dollars. It aims to use the regional agent for similar future deals and may erect a sale sign on the property.
Major Vic Bridgette of No 1 Glider Pilot Training School presents Cadet Glider Wings to Ken Heaton of 758 Georgetown. He spent six weeks at Trenton Air Cadet Camp and completed rider training to solo level after 69 flights.
Norval residents prepared to march for town water as wells remain polluted. A telephone survey found 17 percent of 55 tested wells clean, while only 58 percent of 68 contacted had adequate supply. Residents urge action, citing higher costs and insurance due to polluted wells. officials note cost and subsidy hurdles for a Norval water system.
North Halton Meals on Wheels, once in dire financial shape, hires Nora Vilkauskas of Georgetown as co ordinator and plans to deliver meals to Acton by November. Ruth Poulos says Acton residents have long needed service, with a four member board and plans to seek $120 yearly pledges from local organizations.
Twenty seven persons charged with causing a disturbance will appear in Milton court on Sept. 29 following a party on Aug. 28 on the Sixth Line north of Hatton Road where beer bottles were thrown at police officers and cruisers. A police vehicle windshield was smashed and minor dents to another roof were caused. Police required assistance to arrest and transport the 27 to headquarters.
Olympic equestrian Jim Day, 31, former Canada rider from the 1968 Mexico City gold team, stands trial in Milton Provincial Court for allegedly causing unnecessary injury to Pied Piper, a 12-year-old show jumper at Sam-Sen Farms. The horse bears spur marks and injuries after two schooling sessions on June 1 and 2. owner Susan Franklin seeks decision by Sept 12.
Merald correspondent Hy Dorothy McLean reports a telephone survey by Norval Community Association of wells in Norval. Out of 68 contacted, 50 percent had inadequate water. seventeen had clear water, the rest polluted. Homeowners pay about 300 annually for water while delays in piping from Georgetown spark frustration. Art Reinhardt plans a meeting to decide action.
The Herald reports a slow job market across Halton Hills as Manpower spokesmen from Georgetown Brampton Guelph Milton and Milton warn of limited upswings. Demand remains strongest for skilled trades and service sector roles with under 25s hitting highest unemployment and cautious expansion anticipated from Scott Paper Neilsons and Wheelabrator.
The Georgetown Manpower offices will relocate to larger premises in May 1978 to create a one stop service for unemployment insurance and job registration. Bernie Tolson notes the move aligns local and national efforts to streamline access, with Brampton's 20 Nelson St. as the nearest UI office. The Georgetown office has grown to full-time operation and now serves as a community employment agency.
