The Arts and Crafts of Georgetown held a midsummer gathering at Mrs. H. Moser’s Hilght Farm with 15 members and 4 guests, welcoming new member Mrs. Cyril Brandford. The group, now affiliated with the Canadian Handicraft Guild Ontario Branch, discussed September 16 Fall Fair exhibits including Angora wool demonstrations and hand loom weaving. The next meeting at Mrs. Milne’s is set for November 8 to plan the Christmas display.

Trooper Thomas Edwin Dickenson of Stewarttown received the Military Medal for gallantry during the Italian campaign. On May 24, 1944, near the Kummel line, he charged under heavy fire to man a Browning machine gun, driving off paratroopers and enabling his unit to reorganize and defend, likely saving many lives.

Georgetown Bowlers Win Only Prize in Brampton Jitney

Hornby Youth Killed in Action in France
Spr. John James Robertson, 23, of Hornby, killed in France while serving with the Royal Canadian Artillery. His mother Mrs Gladys Robertson and his wife and two sons, Albert and Richard, live on Parkdale Ave. Hamilton. He enlisted in 1940 and went overseas with the artillery in August 1941. Surviving are his mother and a brother in Manchester, England, with another brother serving with the Eight Army in Italy.

Huttonville Night Sings to Support Georgetown Men Overseas
A large crowd at Huttonville Park raised funds during the Sunday Night singsong. The evening collected $92.23, plus $100 surplus from prior events, aiming to fund cigarettes and gifts for Georgetown men overseas. The Georgetown Girls Pipe Band and local performers led the program, with Ted Scarlett named best performer. Total raised by Huttonville Par is now $660.23 with 187/700 cigarettes sent overseas.

Cactus Blooms After Eleven Years of Tepid Growth
Mrs Arthur Walters of Durham Bt nurtured a prickly cactus for eleven years with no bloom until this year when a 10 inch long and 5 inch wide flower emerged on the side of the plant. The bloom resembled an Easter Lily with white edges and green tint, featuring a star shaped pistil and many stamens. It took two weeks to develop and stayed in bloom for twenty four hours. Mrs Walters also owns a night blooming cereus that has not yet flowered.

Born in Allost and raised in Georgetown, he served with the Algonquin Regiment after enlisting in May. He married Jean Jefferson of Nettley Lake, Manitoba, prior to overseas service. Survived by widow, parents, four brothers Roy Floyd Gordon and Paul, and five sisters.

Alfred Pehike Dies at Oakville in His 60th Year
Alfred Pehike died suddenly at his residence in Oskville on Sunday, August 13, in his 60th year. A druggist practitioner treating in Preston, Kitchener, Hamilton and Palmer to came to Oskville a month ago. Son of the late Dr Godsfield Pehike, born and educated at Mitchell. one son George, both of Kitchener. Interment at Westland Cemetery, Mitchell on Wednesday afternoon. He was a member of the Masons and a Liberal.
