A brutal thunderstorm with strong winds disrupted the Ontario Jamboree at Kelso. About 300 of 800 tents were blown down, forcing evacuations to Milton and neighboring facilities. The storm struck as scouts prepared dinner, leaving waterlogged gear and a mass exodus, while Halton agencies and local residents housed and fed those affected.
At a Georgetown District High School Board meeting parents urged funding for sending their French speaking pupils to De Charbonnel in North York as a publicly supported French language secondary school. The board read a Department of Education note stating De Charbonnel is a private school and not eligible for such funding. Education Bill 13 sets rights to French language secondary education where available but does not cover transportation or tuition to private schools. Lecuyer and two parents argued for a solution, noting students would take the same courses in French, with only three previously enrolled locally.
Council discussed a large project to widen Guelph Street from Maple Avenue to the Main Street bridge. Dr. W Smith urged a planning report for the area, a five year effort with many properties affected. The plan faced Creek by Dodge Brothers issues, and costs over the period were cited.

Georgetown High School and Separate School Board face overcrowding as a surge of new residents elevates expected attendance. Administrators warn spaces are tight with openings in September uncertain while past year saw 6 044 pupils on opening day, including 3 154 in Georgetown elementary schools and about 1 100 at the high school.
The council, in a third reading, imposes a special sewer and water charge on certain buildings, including two dwelling units, multiple family dwellings, and duplexes.
