Georgetown High School published its upper school results showing 119 of 149 papers passed with grade C or better and 30 below the 50 mark. Bet ty Grant Azolyn Hayes and Margot Williams topped the list with multiple firsts, second place finishes, and honor standing across seven subjects. Complete candidate results include numerous Eng. Thrilling voyage of Chengtu missionaries to Acton
Dr and Mrs R Gordon Agnew and children Margaret 11 Bob 13 Ruth 5 arrived in Acton after a month long trek via plane ocean liner and motor coach from Chengtu China. Field Meetings Highlight Halton Crop Improvement Program
Under Halton Crop Improvement Association auspices field meetings were held on W. E. Brecken Freeman and Ross Gordon Rockwood farms where 12 barley and 12 oats varieties were tested. Speakers included Prof. G. N. Ruhnke and R. Keegan from OAC and J Laughlane and R J Brydon. The association list of farms showed ongoing grain, grass, clover, hybrid corn and soil fertility work across multiple farmers including Heslop Bronte Hall Bird Pearen Lawson Norval Campbellville and Woodley.

A departed staff member Les Clark is at Camp Niagara with the Lorne Scots Regiment. The lads are in their second week of training and will return late Saturday. Governor General Lord Athlone and Princess Alice visited the Petawawa training camp for War display shows. Troops demonstrated bridge building bayo net charges and a mock valley battle with dummy village and anti aircraft fire. Hole in One at Cedar Crest by Local Golfer
Ken Mackenzie, a local golf enthusiast, scored a hole in one on the difficult second hole at Cedar Crest Golf Course this week. Playing with George Dickie of Toronto, he followed his ball over the water hazard into the cup, duplicating his brother Sam who was the other claimant to a hole in one on this hole.

Charles Lucas Burial Follows August Services
Death of Charles Lucas at his Victoria Street home after a lengthy illness. Born in Gravesend England, 64, he emigrated to Canada 34 years ago, lived in Lakeport and Georgetown, and worked at Smith & Stone Ltd for 16 years. Survived by widow Rose Alice Mantell and five children, ten grandchildren. Funeral at St George's Church August 14, burial Greenwood Cemetery Georgetown. Pallbearers were six Smith & Stone employees.

Pioneer Halton Businessman S H McGibbon Dies
Samuel H. McGibbon, a Halton County pioneer and head of the McGibbon Hotel, died early Tuesday morning at his home after years of illness. He is survived by seven children and his wife preceded him in death.
