Wayrie Watts of Downsview is named Ontario Scholar for academic achievement. The recognition honors Watts among top students in the province for demonstrating excellence in studies and community leadership.

County warden Charles Hillmer passes away. He chaired the town's public school board and led local Masonic Lodge activities. His father, the late Hillmer, served as Oakville mayor and Ontario Conservative MPP. Hillmer was linked to the family business and community groups.
A Herald report saying a World War I veterans reunion would occur in Georgetown in September was incorrect. Local vets support a zone reunion with Brampton but renovations at the Georgetown Legion hall halted plans. A large turnout of district veterans is expected to swap reminiscences and enjoy planned entertainment.

Arm strong Brothers Construction of Brampton won a 210 966 tender to reconstruct 1.39 miles of No. 7 highway through town. The bid was the lowest of six. Council approval depends on the Department of Highways funding 80 percent. Project runs from Norvale hill boundary to Mountainview intersection with a 44 foot pavement and lanes at Delvet Blvd and Delrex Market Centre entrances. Town engineer W. H. Carr hopes completion by mid October.
