The West End Y M C A junior and senior boys camp at Norval ended after a six week session with a circus show and camp fire. Seventy acres were lent by Mordon Neilson and transformed into a camp site with a new recreation hall and plans for a athletic field. About 160 boys attended weekly and over 100 others wished to join. Glenn Gauld, Royal Work Secretary, led the camp operations.
The Hulton County council held a lengthy session in Milton last week. Oakville learns that county funds may be used for work from Station Road to the town cemetery and Kerr Street north of Rebouca Street. A five o clock Wednesday drowning occurred in Sixteen Mile Creek on Thomas Weir’s farm near Milton. Elizabeth Jane Newell, 9, daughter of Frank and Miss Newell of Kolao, with friend Mary Pearson, slipped into the creek while bathing. Elizabeth’s body was recovered entangled in roots and life could not be saved. Mary Pearson narrowly escaped with injuries and both girls’ families and the Milton community mourn the loss with a large Grace Anglican church funeral. The service honored Elizabeth at 2:30 pm in Milton, attended by local lodges and officials with the interment in Evergreen cemetery.
The National Council of Women of Canada announces a nationwide appeal for a 200000 dollar foundation fund to support delegates, national committees, and a possible national headquarters. Headquarters are in Kingston with plans to begin in late September and early October.
