Storms Cause Blackouts Across Town Areas Hit by Power Loss
Severe electrical storms Monday and Tuesday caused blackouts in parts of town. A willow fell on a primary line near John Street East by the CN northern line, cutting power briefly. Decision Delayed on Debentures for Pineview School
Esquesing School Board asked council to seek tentative approval for a 411,700 addition to Pineview School including six classrooms one primary opportunity class one kindergarten a library and two general purpose rooms. The debentures would be issued by the county as the project won t be finished until 1960. Debate cited rising education costs and tax implications with council delaying the decision for further thought. Building permits issued in July totaled 3700 for homes or horages.

Fire outbreaks scorch park stands and barn blaze
Fire Chief Erwin Lewis said flames from a 1944 era stand burned a large wooden structure near Georgetown, visible from Brampton. Crews held the blaze to protect adjoining bleachers until 3:30. Police seek nearby teenagers for questioning after two Friday fires, plus a barn fire at Aldghews H. Sieben farm on Sideroad 5S near Esquesing, destroying 46 pigs and four sows. Guelph Man Dies After Silvercreek Curve Crash
A Guelph resident Lewis D. was killed July 31 when his car collided with a truck on Highway 7 at the Silver Creek curve. Jackson, taken to Georgetown Hospital, died three hours later. North Halton OPP investigated the crash.
