Mr and Mrs Harold Patterson of Orangeville announce the engagement of their eldest daughter Marian Dereen to Mr Hendrick H deVries son of Mr and Mrs Lykie deVries of Georgetown. The wedding is set for August 30 at Westminster United Church Orangeville at 4 p.m.
Mary Elizabeth Geant daughter of Mrs WoW Gaunt and David McCareter son of Mia and Mrs Alea McCumber married at Georges Church of England on Saturday. The bride wore a white satin gown with cathedral length veil and carried moon roses. Norma Thompson served as junior bridesmaid. Vernon McCumber was best man. guests arrived from Toronto Ottawa and Georgetown. After a wedding at the church a reception followed and the couple departed for New York City by plane for their honeymoon.
Jacqueline Jennings married Duncan Baxter at St John’s United Church in Baxter on a Saturday afternoon. The bride, daughter of Gordon and Mrs Jennings of George town, wore a nylon net gown with lace and a ten foot train. The groom is son of Mr and Mrs Kasxter of Georgetown and works at A Vic Roe Company Mindteas. Officiating was Rev John M Smith. music by Mrs James F Evans. Matron of honour Mrs Robert McCandless wore mauve nylon over taffeta. The couple plans to reside in College View Georgetown after a honeymoon trip.
Earl Scott of Limehouse enters the Canadian Open all time fiddlers contest this week at Shelburne. Fiddlers from across Canada are expected to compete in Friday night playdowns with semi finals and finals set for Saturday night.
Arthur Bradley brother of W. F. Bradley died suddenly in Chicago at his son Brock's home. Funeral arrangements were not finalized. a likely service will be Saturday at Sherrin Funeral Home Beach and Kingston Road Toronto with interment at St Margaret's Cemetery West Hill. Labour Day is the next public holiday in Georgetown.
The notice reports a rainy period with 3.32 inches in one day the highest since May 24. July's rainfall and temperatures ran slightly above normal with daily highs near 80s and several nights in the 40s. Georgetown Public Schools announce new staff for September. Miss Marion Scarlett will teach at Howard Wrigglesworth School and replace retiring staff. Arthur Herbert and Joseph Carter are among replacements. Board plans a future decision on the old school and notes funding needs.
Ruth Presswood and Leslie Deforest wed at United Church Glen Wal- Dautas on Saturday. The bride wore French lace and net over satin with seed pearl trim, and carried a cascade of red roses. The groom's party included best man Alex Zilio and ushers Victor and Douglas Stirret. The couple will reside in Georgetown.
A Georgetown resident, William Ernest Shipway, 62, died after being struck by a car on Lake Shore Road in New Toronto. Peter Malyk, 32, was injured with a broken leg. Interment followed at Park Lawn Cemetery. Also reported is the August 2 Brampton wedding of Adele Margaret Bastedo and Denis Earl McCartney at St. Pauls United Church manse with reception in Brampton. couple to reside in Georgetown.
