Stay-At-Home Camp closes after two weeks of activities

The Stay-At-Home camp run by the Lions Club, Georgetown Recreation Commission and the Ministerial Association ended with closing exercises at Knox Presbyterian Church. A post-camp picnic on the High School lawn featured dances, races and games for campers ages 3 to 7, with near 350 children involved at some point and about 200 on average daily attendance.

United Church Wedding for Kentner and Bailey in Georgetown

A wedding ceremony at United Church in Georgetown united Miss Marjorie A Kentner and Mr Jack Bailey with Rev. John M Smith presiding. The bride wore a white marquisette gown with pearl headdress and veil, carried crimson gladioli, and was accompanied by bridesmaids in moire tafetta gowns. Groomsman was Donald Rand with ushers Vernon Cole and Gordon James and a reception followed.

Local Schools Begin Interior Painting Program

Summer holidays let two local schools pursue painting and decorating. At the Public School Jim Kennedy contracted to paint three rooms including the Kindergarten-Primary classroom in blue tones and rose woodwork in the entrance. Mingy Wilma Stul’s classroom receives two shades of yellow. The former assembly room is being converted to a classroom and a hallway has been added between rooms. work on the high school also advances with Slawes and Nelson and Acton nearing a contract for painting the science lab in brown and pale hues.

The Georgetsa Norval centre Lacrosse minors held firm with a 5-2 win over Orangeville as Don Schenk scored twice and Tom Arnoutstead led Norval. Pee Wees played at Fergus on Civic Holiday and won 8 to 2, with a lineup including Grasby Sedore Richardson Cunningham Wellington Teramato and others.

Plastic boat places second at Orillia regatta

The Beld plastic boat built in Georgetown by Leonard J. Bell and Rippin-Wer performed well at the Civic Holiday boats in Orillia. The new class boat led the race in a ten mile event before sustaining a strong finish.

Waite Home Offered to Brampton Hospital

Brampton on Peel Memorial Hospital received an offer of the Waite home on Main Street South. Mr J A Carroll, hospital board chairman, announced the gift valued at 100000 dollars with seventeen rooms, a pool and landscaped four acre grounds. The Waite family suggested the property be used as a nurse residence or sold to fund other hospital needs.
