A fragmented notice describes a Georgetown crafts exhibit linked to Canadian Guilds, praising skilled members and promoting advanced courses in wood and copper weaving. It notes a fifty member group and aims to boost artistic skill among participants and visitors.
The Stay-At-Home camp run by the Lions Club, Georgetown Recreation Commission and the Ministerial Association ended with closing exercises at Knox Presbyterian Church. A post-camp picnic on the High School lawn featured dances, races and games for campers ages 3 to 7, with near 350 children involved at some point and about 200 on average daily attendance.
In Nassagaweya Centennial celebrations last weekend a Nasagaweya Young People's Club ducky draw named winners. Listed prizes include a pressure cooker, toaster, iron, lanp, Afghan, doll, wagon, footstool and more for participants such as Stuy Mason Acton David Joe W D Coulson Hector Parker Mrs Wingrove Wayne Easterbrook Mrs Near Kit cher Mr Snyder and others.
Night blooming cereus owned by Tom Warnes bloomed again this year in a Public School room with blooms noted Sunday Monday and Tuesday nights.
A wedding ceremony at United Church in Georgetown united Miss Marjorie A Kentner and Mr Jack Bailey with Rev. John M Smith presiding. The bride wore a white marquisette gown with pearl headdress and veil, carried crimson gladioli, and was accompanied by bridesmaids in moire tafetta gowns. Groomsman was Donald Rand with ushers Vernon Cole and Gordon James and a reception followed.
Summer holidays let two local schools pursue painting and decorating. At the Public School Jim Kennedy contracted to paint three rooms including the Kindergarten-Primary classroom in blue tones and rose woodwork in the entrance. Mingy Wilma Stul’s classroom receives two shades of yellow. The former assembly room is being converted to a classroom and a hallway has been added between rooms. work on the high school also advances with Slawes and Nelson and Acton nearing a contract for painting the science lab in brown and pale hues.
At the Imperial Theatre in Toronto this week Norr istown viewed a colour newsreel from the Lions Convention in New York City featuring Georgetown Curls Pipe Band images.
The Georgetsa Norval centre Lacrosse minors held firm with a 5-2 win over Orangeville as Don Schenk scored twice and Tom Arnoutstead led Norval. Pee Wees played at Fergus on Civic Holiday and won 8 to 2, with a lineup including Grasby Sedore Richardson Cunningham Wellington Teramato and others.
The Beld plastic boat built in Georgetown by Leonard J. Bell and Rippin-Wer performed well at the Civic Holiday boats in Orillia. The new class boat led the race in a ten mile event before sustaining a strong finish.
Brampton on Peel Memorial Hospital received an offer of the Waite home on Main Street South. Mr J A Carroll, hospital board chairman, announced the gift valued at 100000 dollars with seventeen rooms, a pool and landscaped four acre grounds. The Waite family suggested the property be used as a nurse residence or sold to fund other hospital needs.
Social and personal notices recount residents vacationing in Buffalo Sarnia Detroit and Maine visits with relatives in Barrie Guelph Owen Sound and Meaford. Families travel to Wasaga Beach Orillia Penetanguishene and Lake Simcoe while engagements marriages and summer cottages feature among local activities and visitors from Toronto Westmount and Lacombe.
A weather note reviews last week of July with above normal temperatures and a monthly average 82 for max 59 for min. It records two substantial rains and daily tallies including July 25 to 31 with highs from 68 to 92 and rainfall totals about 3.52 inches for the month.
