Explosion at Mare Island navy yard devastates magazine
On June 18 at 11 30 a.m. a blast wrecked a Mare Island magazine building. Reports say Acting Gunner Hittinger of the cruiser Boston and eleven others were killed with three seriously wounded. A work party of fifteen from the Boston was in the filling room when a shell dropped caused the explosion.

Body of Homer Carron Recovered After Drowning
The body of Homer Carron, who was drowned while attempting to ford the Nesqually, was found on the river bank by Indians on the reservation. The Indians claimed a $25 reward before delivering the body. The remains have been interred.
