Crescent block hotel fire leaves heavy losses in Spokane
A basement fire at 3:30 in the Crescent block gutted a three story brick hotel. Lodgers were rescued by ladders as escape routes failed. several occupants were saved though losses run high with insured amounts varying by claimant. A related Portland fire destroyed a two story theater building, fully insured, totaling about thirty thousand dollars. In Rochester a disgraced Express car robber was identified as Oliver Curtis Perry of Syracuse, linked to a prior Utica train robbery and now sought.
