An account copied from Blackwood's Magazine describes the 1756 siege of Fort William at Galeatta and the confinement of 146 prisoners in a 18 by 18 foot cell. Exhaustion, heat, and thirst led to brutal suffering as men were forced to strip for air and later wedged together, causing many deaths.
