Opening Exercises At Old Fort School Attract Large Crowd
The Old Fort school opened with more than 600 seats filled as J R Harris P H Mashburn and H R Early sat on the stage along with Prof S B Smithey Rev J E Ingle Rev C C Grogan Louis Allison and Albert Noblett. Principal Smithey led the program urging parental cooperation and attendance for the year's work. Four new instructors were introduced and a violin duet by the Lipe sisters concluded the morning.

The United States Leather Company will not discontinue buying acid wood starting September 1, a semi philanthropic move amid local distress from financial and labor conditions.Petitions from Old Fort business people wood haulers and Shell Eastern Products officials prompted the action. A wood delivery pattern from eight counties, led by McDowell, arrived in the last week. The tannery bears extra railroad and storage costs but this lifesaving measure is welcomed.

Woman's Club to Meet Next Friday
