A large crowd attended the Halloween program at the high school auditorium. Spooks and grosts visited for the annual event with autumn leaf decor. The Virginia Reel was danced by the fifth grade in old fashioned costume. The Junior Band directed by Mr. Joe Greene performed, with members Burt Moore Ike Caplan Worley Caplan Louise Bistline James Bistline Edison Oats Howard LeFevre S. B. Smithey Hosts Five-Table Bridge Party With Prizes
Mr and Mrs S B Smithey entertained friends with five tables of bridge on a Saturday evening. High score went to George Moore and low score to D M McIntosh who received gifts. The American Red Cross provided aid in six countries including Newfoundland Persia France and Costa Rica. Newfoundland received 5000 after a tidal wave that killed 26 people and destroyed homes. Costa Rica received 50000 vaccine tubes to avert a smallpox outbreak.

Saving Mothers and Babies Is Important Red Cross Task
The Public Health Nursing Service of the American Red Cross reports most of its 794 nurses conducted over 100,000 prenatal and maternity visits and aided in examining 1,309,409 school children. It notes two thirds of maternal deaths could be saved with proper care, and that over 15,000 women die annually from maternal diseases, with more than 10,000 deaths preventable.

Red Cross Sends 40000 Comfort Kits to Service Members
Comfort kits in gay cretonne bags containing useful and amusing items are sent by the Red Cross to 40,000 soldiers sailors and Marines on foreign service as Christmas remembrances. Women in Red Cross chapters nationwide pack and donate the bags. They are dispatched by Army transport in autumn to reach foreign ports and posts in time for Christmas trees. The program traces to a prewar plan when many National Guard regiments were at the Mexican border.
