Irene Schriever of Kane, Pa notes in The Old Fort News published with Marion Progress that life holds both sorrow and hope. The piece counsels living in the present despite past tribulations and weathering future storms with faith.
A vivid tour feature touts North Africa motoring from Morocco to the Sahara. It praises colonial road projects, luxury hotels, and Moorish architecture, with desert caravan adventures and Orient- era charm. Miss Lenoir Dula, a European tour director, authored the piece. Atlanta plans a 1000 room hotel.
Rev. J. N. Snow and his brother Rev. E. E. Snow will lead a revival at Cross Mill Methodist Church starting May 4. The siblings, both Methodist ministers, have not preached together before. J. N. Snow, elder brother, has recently served in North Dakota with the N. D. Conference after leaving Mt. Airy, North Carolina.
Deputies C L Tate and Taylor Greene destroyed several blockade stills over two months. On April 11 near Old Fort a 55 gallon oil burner galvanized still was destroyed. On April 17 a 55 gallon steam still on the Catawba River and 600 gallons of beer were destroyed. On April 19 a still near Long Branch was removed, the third at that site. On March 14 Tate and Greene aided by Banks and Lance destroyed a copper still on Curtis Creek.
Miss Lenore R. Keatley spoke to Miss Bula Kanipe’s Domestic Science class at Old Fort High School Monday. The talk covered treatment for fainting nosebleed shocks and fractures with a demonstration of artificial respiration and tourniquet application.
Entertaining minstrel show to be presented at Old Fort School with a well chosen cast including several teachers. The event promises great hilarity and a small admission fee for a gay time with plenty of fun and laughs.
Mr and Mrs J A Swann entertained on Sunday with a dinner honoring their daughter Hazel who marked her sixteenth birthday. Guests included Mr and Mrs S H Greene Mr and Mrs Guy Giles Miss Emmaree Giles of Hickory Mr and Mrs W W Le Fevre Miss Mary Virginia Adams Miss Polly Green and Howard Le Fevre.
The mayor distributes circulars inviting citizens to join Cleanup Week starting May 5 to beautify the town by cleaning up businesses and vacant lots planting flower seeds and setting out shrubbery. The aim is a more attractive town and happier residents.
W. L. Smarr, McDowell County farm demonstrator, is expected in Old Fort to arrange formation of a poultry club for local boys and girls.
M. E. Hansel, Minister at Old Fort, notes public tax obligations and duty to pay. An accompanying humorous quote remarks many people comply reluctantly, paying up and smiling.
Local residents frequent Asheville Winston-Salem and Marion visits while others leave for Johnson City and Sarasota. Several social events volunteer meetings and religious activities are noted along with a serious automobile wreck west of Point Lookout ending in one fatality Thelma Warren.
A vintage kitchen feature presents Potage Saint Germain and Creme Washington as refined family dishes. Diat guides methods from soaking and chopping vegetables to simmering stocks and straining to achieve smooth textures with butter cream and light sweetness.
Ammonia can remove NK stains from fingers by rubbing with a moistened cloth then rinsing. Lemon juice cleans rust on white fabrics. For broiled sea bass, make a sauce from lemon juice, lemon rind, sugar, and two well beaten egg yolks, added to strained fish stock in a double boiler, stirred until thickened and served over the fish.

Notice of two separate land sales in McDowell County North Carolina under Deeds of Trust. First sale May 3 1930 at Marion courthouse for three lots in Old Fort and a Mashburn subdivision tract. Second sale May 5 1930 at Marion courthouse for Old Fort lot described in 1901 deed, with exclusions from two subsequent transfers. F M Bradley trustee and secretary-treasurer of Old Fort Building and Loan Association conducts both sales after default on notes.
