The funeral for Edward Jones Burgin, Sr., 77, Spanish War veteran, was held Friday at Old Fort Presbyterian Church. He died March 19 after weeks of ill health. Survived by widow, three daughters, and two sons. Interment in Siloam cemetery. Out-of-town mourners listed from Marion, Spruce Pine, Winston-Salem, and Greenlee.
A Friday afternoon gathering honored Mrs Amos Crippen as she and Mr Crippen move to Cumberland Maryland after his transfer. Guests included Mrs S B Smithey Mrs D M McIntosh Exley Mrs W W LeFevre and others with spring flowers a cake contest and a literary contest for prizes won by Mrs Swich and Mrs Mashburn.
The home economics class under Miss Bula Kanipe will present an interior decoration demonstration on Friday and Saturday. It will take place on the second floor of the Anderson Whisnant Furniture Store.

A collision near Beaucatcher tunnel sent T. M. Greene and his wife from Old Fort to Asheville down an embankment. A. L. Johnson of Asheville escaped injury and was arrested for driving while intoxicated. Hearing set for Judge Zeb V. Nettles in police court this morning. Johnson is described as a traveling salesman.
The Epworth League of the M. E. Church South marked its 40th anniversary with a devotional service, violin trio by Lipe, songs by Eunice Wilkinson, a reading by Annabelle Noblitt, special violin music by Live Trio, a solo by Mr. Allison, a poem by Katherine Finch, a talk by Rev. J. C. Umberger, and a duet by Mrs. Umberger and Mrs. C. Steppe. Miss Marie Sabom organized the program, followed by a collection for the County Relief Association.
The Senior Class of Old Fort High School organizes with motto Not Finished Just Begun Pink and green colors and pink rose bud informal. Officers elected Norris Hensley president Mary Sue Grant vice president Frances Sherrill secretary Pauline Noblitt treasurer. The class will be the largest in Old Fort School history with many students listed as expected graduates.

Guests of Mr and Mrs Grady Nichols included Mr and Mrs Wallace Wells of Lakeland Fla Joe Hargrave and daughter Edith of Waynesville and Professor Hutchins of Canton. Mrs Don Grant hosted Frances Grants birthday dinner Sunday with Frances and Ellen Walker Joe Lee Burgin Stogie Lonon and Francis Grant present.
Columbus reports Polk county farm agent John W. Artz says 6 250 pounds of chickens have been shipped to poultry cars this year, netting 1 041 dollars for 150 farmers and farm women. Most birds are culls or surplus stock. Saluda leads in sales, season lasts to July. Last year 450 people sold 17 500 pounds for 4 200 dollars.
