Mrs Amos Crippen entertained the Old Fort Woman's Club at her Main street home. President Lula Sandlin led a business session stressing welfare fund needs and noting a donated supplies room in the Bradley building. Members and guests enjoyed a social hour with a frozen salad course.
Little Marguerite Gilliam seven, daughter of Mr and Mrs J Y Gilliam of Candler, died Saturday night after a brief illness. Surviving parents three brothers Noah West Asheville Walter Seattle Edwin Candler. two sisters Mrs H H Tate Atlanta and Evelyn Gilliam Candler. Funeral at Hominy Baptist Church Sunday 3 pm led by Rev Bennett.
Miss Jennie Gibson 23 daughter of Charles and Myrina Gibson of Old Fort N C and Da vid Pierson 35 of Morristown N J obtained a license to wed in New York City. The couple said they would marry today by the city clerk. Miss Gibson lists Greystone Park N J as her address. Pierson was born in Morristown and is the son of George and Annie Pierson.
Miss Helen Watkins of Raleigh visited her cousin Mrs. P H Mashburn inspiring a bridge party hosted by Mrs. Hart Taylor at the Mashburn residence Saturday night. Three tables featured early spring flowers and potted plants with Mrs Harry Ditmore of Marion winning top score and a perfume bottle as prize. A salad course followed, served by Mrs Mashburn with help from Mesdames Amos Crippen and George Sandlin. attendees included S B Smithey Amos Crippen Dr Harry Ditmore Geo Sandlin Miss Maude Crawford Lenore Keatley and Messrs Fred Bradley Latta Whisnant Kimball Miller Louie Cuthbertson of Ridgeway Pa.
Miss McKay supervisor at Mission Hospital Miss Ruth Boyette nurse trainer at Mission Hospital and Miss Austin from Biltmore Hospital dined with Mr and Mrs Clifford Nesbitt on Sunday at six. After dinner local music featured solos and duets by Lenore Keatley Edith Rowe Grady and Clifford Nesbitt.
The M E Church South Om holds Sunday services March 16 with Sunday School at 10 a m and preaching at 11 a m on the topic Religious Education. Epworth League meets at 6 45 p m with preaching at 7 30 p m led by Rev E W Fox who presides Marion District and conducts the second quarterly conference afterward. Everyone is invited to attend all services.
Old Fort and Oakdale churches announce Sunday services with Sunday schools and evening meetings led by Minister E Hansel M E Hansel. Siloam Sunday School at 2 pm. New water pipes on Main Street installed this week under supervision of T B Faw and Mayor Harmon.

Prof S B Smithey and Supt A V Nolan spent Saturday in Boone. M J Beach of Union Tanning Co visiting Old Fort. Born to Mr and Mrs Ralph Harris a son on March 5. Mrs Lee Jordan of Asheville visited relatives. Several locals visited friends in Burnsville and Marion. A small fire at I L Caplan home triggered a quick fire department response.
