Funeral Held for Mrs. J. M. Blankenship in Asheville

Funeral services for Mrs. J M Blankenship were conducted at her mother Mrs W B Ballard’s Leicester Road home after she died of heart disease at Asheville Southern Railway station while visiting relatives. Interment followed at Greenhill Cemetery Asheville. Survivors include husband four children and multiple siblings. Pallbearers were Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers members.

A L Beach Confederate Veteran Dies at 81

A L Beach, Confederate veteran aged 81, died at his son's home in Charlotte on Monday. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Presbyterian church in Old Fort, with Rev. M E Hansel and others officiating. He married Margaret Carothers in 1881 and is survived by eight children including Eugene Beach of Charlotte and five sons. Interment followed at Old Fort cemetery.

The Ladies Aid Society of the Methodist Church South will present a benefit play titled Form Folks at the high school auditorium. Posters are being prepared for display around town inviting the public to attend.

Old Fort Notes Brighten Local Life With Visitors

A flurry of regional visitors and residents marked Old Fort life as many guests arrived from Marion Asheville and Greensboro. Notable items include Smithey Jr. recovering from a fall, Miss Griffin visiting from Pine Tops, and the Old Fort Department Store relocating. A July Cokesbury School will be held at the Old Fort Methodist Church to train Sunday School workers with religious education in the small church.

Government sells Nitro town at public auction for 250000

Nitro West Virginia, a war time town built by the government for around 70 million, sold at auction to Nitro Industrial Corp for 250000 to satisfy a government lien. The sale includes 30 factory buildings 1000 acres of land and 432 residences.
