Miss Allison Hosts Bridge Party at Newport

Miss Emma Allison entertained a group at her Newport home with a bridge party. Punch and a salad course followed the games. Prizes went to Miss Nancy Miller, L. J. Whisnant, and Robert Wilkinson. Guests included Estelle Lavender and Gertrude Dula among others. Allison will visit Knoxville then Narrows before joining Johnny Rockett.

Miss Mabel Crawford Directs Greensboro Girl Scout Camp

A Greensboro Daily News photo highlights Miss Mabel Crawford of Old Fort as director of the Girl Scout Camp in Greensboro. The camp opened June 17 with Crawford as camp chief, organizing girls into troop units led by senior and junior counselors, sleeping in shacks, and starting each day with a bugle call into a full program of work, education, and recreation.

New Lake Near Old Fort Opens for Recreation

A 15 acre lake at Garretts Creek near Old Fort, built by P H Mashburn and Dr D M McIntosh, will yield water in a week or two for fish and recreation. It lies one and half miles west of Old Fort and half a mile from Highway 10 in a gorge. Owners offer a small prize for a suitable name.
