Rhododendron Grove No 70 held its first regular meeting on Monday January 13. Officers for the year were installed led by Mrs Lee Jordan past guardian and Mrs B Y Allison guardian with others including Mrs Mary Porter adviser and Dr D M McIntosh financial secretary. Mrs Paul Allison was initiated into Woodcraft. The group planned practice and a program for January 27 with social refreshments.
The North Carolina Daughters of the Confederacy spent 1500 to plant trees and shrubs on State Route 75 the Jefferson Davis Highway. The project was presented to the State Highway Commission January 17 at the granite marker near the Virginia line with officials from the DCDU C highway committee the Department of Revenue district engineer and the state forester in attendance. Oxford Chapter near the meeting site joined, with the Oxford Boy Scouts serving as guard of honor.
Mr. Bynum Elliott of Stone Mountain found a hunted coon wearing a collar bearing his name. The animal had been a pet for two years and escaped six years ago, then reappeared last Friday night.
A series of eight circulars outlining fertilizer recommendations for soils and leading crops in North Carolina has been prepared by the North Carolina Experiment Station at Raleigh. Free copies available by writing C. B. Williams at State College.
New titles arrive on the shelves including The Prodigal Girl Grace Livingston Hill The Glenlitten Murder Phillip Oppenheim Fighting Caravans Zaiie Grey and The Black Camel Earl Derr Biggers The Black Camel features Charlie Chan. The library hours extend to Saturday afternoon in winter and patrons are urged to support the library. B J Curtis of the Southern Industrial Location Company plans visits by Craig P Gilbert of Washington DC. Supt F R Richardson visited Prof S B Smithey on Sunday.

Tabor will sell at the courthouse door in Marion North Carolina on February 8 1930 at noon a 50 acre tract in Crooked Creek Township adjoining Sherrill and Owensby known as the Curtis tract full description in a 1924 deed from Clyde Miller and wife C F Noblett and wife to Grover C Tabor recorded Book 64 page 380. Proceeds to satisfy the secured indebtedness from Roy Griggs defaulting on a November 17 1925 mortgage. Posted January 6 1930.
