Ladies Aid Society Meets in Fort Marion

The Ladies Aid Society of the Methodist Church South met with Mrs G I Steppe last Wednesday afternoon. Sixteen members answered roll call. The group collected birthday money for the Aid and planned a Valentine party at Mrs S F Mauney's home with Mrs Lee Jordan Mrs George Moore and Miss Gertrude Dula in charge. The next meeting will be February at the parsonage with Mrs A C Tate assistant hostess.

Building and Loan ends very successful year

The Old Fort Building and Loan reports a record year with $57,100 matured stock since its March 1923 organizing. It has funded homes and offered savings investments while never losing a dollar. Officers include J. M. Kanipe president and W. W. LeFevre vice president among others.

Old Fort School Hosts County and Local Board Dinner

The County and local school board, Supt. A. V. Nolan of Marion, and Prof. S. B. Smithey, Old Fort School principal, dined at Old Fort School on Saturday January 4 at 6:00 p.m. in the Home Economics dining room. The event blended business and social elements with a dinner guided by Miss Bula Kanipe and served by the Domestic Science class.

Mrs Moore Hosts Five-Table Bridge Party on Main Street

Mrs. Geo Moore entertained with five tables of bridge at her Main Street home Thursday evening. Carrie Saunders won high score, Geo Sandlin the gentlemen's prize, Effie Mashburn took the consolation. A salad and sweet course followed. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Graybeal, Crippen, Smith ey, Sandlin, Rockett, Hart Taylor, McIntosh, Ragle, Mashburn, Maude Crawford, Louise Griffen, Margaret Maness, Carrie Saunders, F. M. Bradley, L. J. Whisnant, and George Moore.

Bridge Party at Moore Home Hosts and Guests

Mr and Mrs Geo E Moore held a Thursday bridge party with five progressions. High scores went to Miss Carrie Saunders Mrs Effie Mashburn and Mr Geo Sandlin. Guests included Prof and Mrs S B Smithey and many Old Fort residents. Major W A Collett joins The Progress and Old Fort News congratulates him. H C Fisher traveled to Charlotte on Thursday.

Church Services Well Attended Here Sunday

Old Fort held large Sunday morning services with Rev. Hansel of Concord at the Presbyterian Church Rev. L C Saylor at the Baptist Church and Rev J C Umberger at the Methodist Church Rev Umberger spoke on The Pure and Christlike Mind praising General Robert E Lee as a Southern leader.

Old Fort U D C meeting at Mrs Johnson’s home

A large turnout attended the Old Fort chapter of the U D C at Mrs J B Johnson home on Thursday evening at 7 30 Business session ended with a Jackson Lee program and a salad course followed by fellowship Attendees included Mrs Geo Hyams Mrs Winslow Burgin Mrs M G Turner and others.
