A weekly Old Fort News feature presents a Riley poem about a windy day. The verse describes a bright dawn turning stormy as wind sweeps the landscape, trees quail, browsed by a sorrowful breeze, till rain spoils hopeful light.
Mrs Geo Sandlin welcomed Old Fort Woman's Club members at her Main street home for the first regular meeting of the year. Reports on Alumni banquet Civic department and library were shared. donations were approved and new members welcomed by Miss Edith Rowe Grady.
A New Year Eve dance in Bradley Hall hosted by Mrs H Taylor Miss Gertrude Dula and Mrs Geo Moore drew many students home from college. The event raised funds for the Woman's Club goal of a $100 marker as the club donated the proceeds.
The Old Fort Firemen hosted their annual New Year's Eve ball at the Sandlin store now occupied by Graybear Hardware Co. A large crowd attended as musicians provided inspiring music with violin and guitar, and revelers danced the Old Year out and the New Year in.
Grace S Richmond novel listed among new books at Old Fort Public Library. Local people visit relatives, travel, and attend events across Old Fort Marion Statesville Hendersonville Asheville and Raleigh. Col D W Adams installs a tank and storage equipment for Shell Petroleum Products Company at Old Fort and Marion. The facility will handle kerosene lubricating oil and other petroleum products for McDowell County. Bright yellow and red colors are used to attract attention at the station.
Rev Hansel of Concord will conduct services at the Presbyterian Church at Old Fort Sunday at 11 in the morning and 7 30 in the evening January 12 prospecting for pastorate. The public is invited to attend these services.
