The Old Fort News prints a seasonal verse reflecting farewell to the old year. The piece remembers happier days and prior sorrow, closing with a traditional goodbye to the departing year in verse form.
The Old Fort Alumni Association held its annual banquet and business meeting in the Home Economics dining room on Saturday at 7:30. Albert S. Noblitt was toastmaster and re-elected president. Marie Sabom became vice-president. Millie Kanipe as secretary treasurer.
Edgar Hensley and Myrtle Henley were married the previous Friday at J. R. Harris home with Rev. C. L. Taylor officiating. The couple, both Old Fort High School graduates, will visit relatives in Richmond, Virginia after the ceremony.
Mr Joe Crawford of Old Fort and Spartanburg and Miss Frances Brice of Fort Motte South Carolina were married at True Blue Plantation Fort Motte on December 6. They will reside in Spartanburg after January 10 with Mr Crawford employed as court stenographer for the Seventh Judicial Circuit Court in Spartanburg.
Cedar trees placed along Front Street were blanketed in snow on Christmas Eve creating a festive scene. The initiative was led by Mrs. P. H. Mashburn, chairwoman of the Old Fort Woman's Club civic department.
A. W. Lavender of Crooked Creek township and Ada Morgan of Swannanoa were married on Christmas day at Rev. C. C. Grogan's home in Old Fort.
Mrs Hart Taylor hosted a Christmas motif bridge party at her Main Street home. Four tables were in play with Miss Maud Crawford winning the high score prize and Mr C W Grayteal taking the gentlemen's high score prize. Refreshments included salad Japanese cake and Russian tea.
The 1B class lists Violet Bryson, Katherine Epley, Utha Mae Johnson, Mildred Lanning, Joe Miller, Billy Oats, Hershel Robertson, Arnold White. Grade 2 includes Paul Harmon Jr, Clyde Raymer, Lois Early, Mabel Harris. Grade 3B is Jack Mason. Grades 4 to 10th list Harriett Long, Len Smithey, Archie McIntosh, Beverly Curtis, Ena Troutman, Robert Nesbitt, Caroline J Sandlin, Mary Sue Young, Exam Manick, Maude Allison, Cadel Camp, Bertie Lattlemyre, Mary Margaret Johnson, Elizabeth Settlemire, Estellina Young, Clara Eller, Edith Lackey, Nannie Sue Sandlin, Myrtle Kerlee, Katheryn Kanipe, Virginia Jones, Gladys Haynes, Dorothy Eller, Nellie Curtis, Mary Allison, Juanita Adams, S B Smithey Jr, Dweyer Umberger, Harris Curtis, and Julia Padgett in 10th grade.
Mr and Mrs W H Curtis of Old Fort announce the marriage of their niece Miss Fay Curtis to Mr Paul Smith of St Joseph Mo. The wedding occurred in Greenville South Carolina on Christmas Day. The couple will reside at 116 Sand Hill Road after January 15.
Funeral services for Mr. M Padgett who died December 22 were conducted by Rev C L Taylor at the Old Fort Baptist Church on December 23. Interment followed at Old Fort Cemetery. Surviving are the widow three sons and two daughters Reba Padgett Loretta McPeeters Baird Leroy and Edgar Padgett.
After the Alumni Banquet at the high school Saturday evening, Miss Carolyn McIntosh hosted a dance at her Main street home. The Christmas decor delighted a large youthful crowd at the gathering. Mrs D M McIntosh also hosted two bridge tables on Wednesday evening at her Main street residence with Mrs Hart Taylor winning high score.
Eight Confederate veterans received Christmas boxes of food from the Old Fort Chapter of the U D C. The note thanks the ladies for their charity and prays for blessings on Old Fort.
The Christian Endeavor group presented a Christmas program Tuesday evening directed by Miss Mary Will Greene. Miss Frances Artz organized gift boxes for Santa, delighting the children who awaited his visit. A baby boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Alec Williams on Sunday, December 29.
Local items list attendees from Old Fort and nearby towns at the alumni banquet for Old Fort High School. Visitors and residents share Christmas holidays across Asheville Marion Marion NC and Georgia. Duke Power to reduce electric rates in Old Fort. numerous family visits noted through the season.

It plunges 1,385 feet, varies with season, and drops into the Circue de Gavarnie amphitheater surrounded by 7000 to 9000 foot peaks.
