Deputy Tate and Bradley destroyed four stills and related equipment between November 21 and 26. They found two large copper mash stills and a 50 gallon copper still along Catawba river and Souther’s creek, plus a steam still on Garretts creek. Beer and whiskey were seized. a keg was found hidden in a stump.
McPeters attempted death by cutting his throat with a pocket knife and is recovering in Marion Hospital after a lively chase by officers. He was arrested for stealing a hog from his uncle, his fourth such theft, and it is alleged he sold chickens in Black Mountain.
A son was born November 28 to Mr and Mrs Obie Laughridge of Gainsboro Tennessee. A son was born November 29 to Mr and Mrs Edwin E Epley.
The Woman's Club meets Friday at 3:30 PM with the Welfare Department in charge to review welfare conditions. Members and nonmembers are urged to bring food clothing or cover for distribution and discuss distribution methods and plans.
The Presbyterian Church group gathered at Mr. and Mrs. George Bistline's home for a monthly Christian Endeavor meeting. A large turnout approved a Thanksgiving program led by James Bistline and Holmes Hansel. Louise Connor won a prize for the best original list of things to be thankful for. The group planned to use the surplus for needy families.
Four hundred young rainbow trout were added to Jarrett's Creek Lake owned by P. H. Mashburn and Dr. D. M. McIntosh. The lake now hosts several thousand trout after recent stockings and is expected to offer excellent fishing next season.

P H Mashburn returned from a deer hunting trip with Asheville friends reporting a very successful peaceful weekend. The group stayed in a Pisgah hunting lodge and harvested a large deer as the primary reward of the expedition.
Circle No 1 of the Presbyterian Church met Tuesday afternoon at Mrs Ed Norton. Mrs D M McIntosh chaired the gathering and led a discussion on church plans and needs. Refreshments were served by the hostess. The next meeting will be at the chairman's home.
J Y Gilliam of West Asheville visited Old Fort on Monday. He was seen touring local sites and meeting residents during the daytime excursion.
Miss Margaret Marley of Lenoir spent Thanksgiving with Rev H Co Marley and family. Several visitors from Spartanburg Asheville Salisbury and Baltimore. trips to Marion Greensboro and Charlotte noted. Thanksgiving gatherings include Old Fort Johnson City and Spartanburg students and staff visitations.
The Womanless Wedding sponsored by the U. D. C. on Tuesday night drew a large crowd and caused much merriment. Proceeds from the entertainment were satisfactory and all participants and spectators thoroughly enjoyed the affair.
Dr F H McMullen received notification of appointment to the membership committee of the National Association of Drug Clerks Inc at Washington DC The druggist has served on the Old Fort Drug Company staff for three years and is widely regarded by friends and colleagues.
