Local History Markers Highlight Western North Carolina Guild

J Hampton Rich director of the Boone Trail Memorial Association tours Old Fort to measure for an extra tablet to be set on an Indian Arrowhead marker. Bob o Link Miniature Golf Course chosen as the new name by judges. Mrs Maua Dehlyn wins the prize while Miss Lenore Keat ley Miss Mary Burgin and Mr Horace Earley served as judges. Eastern Star plans a watermelon feast on Robert Morris Day August 28 with Masons and wives invited to a lawn party at 7 30 p m. Van and Schenck shift from vaudeville to film in They Learned About Women opening at Everybody s Theatre for a two day engagement Monday.

Dula Family Reunites Near Lake Tahoma

The annual Dula reunion gathered 41 members from four states and eight towns near Lake Tahoma on Sunday. Hosts Mr. and Mrs. W. Hawkins of Marion welcomed guests including Mrs. Hattie McKee Cline of Dublin Texas and Mrs. Nannie McKee Gash of Hendersonville. An elaborate dinner followed under beech and cedar shade by a mountain stream. The next reunion is planned for August 1931.

Grischa Scores With Appealing Realism At Everybody’s

Herbert Brenon directs a human war drama from Arnold Zweig in The Case of Sergeant Grischa. The film follows a Russian prisoner in German camps during the 1917 1918 wars with a powerful ensemble cast delivering convincing talking drama at Everybody’s Theatre Friday.

Deputies Capture Two Steam Stills Near Mount Mitchell

Deputies C. L. Tate and W. H. Bradley seized a steam still on Paris Creek near Mount Mitchell on August 11. They destroyed 500 gallons of beer. No arrests were made. The next day they captured a larger still on Curtis Creek Starr Gap Trail. Ten beer barrels and all equipment were destroyed with no arrests.
