The Marion Progress editorial urges communities in Western North Carolina to back local history efforts. Boone Trail Memorial Association places bronzed names on pioneer monuments while linking trail movements under the Guild of Pioneers. Marion likely plays a key role on the Appalachian Indian Road project.
J Hampton Rich director of the Boone Trail Memorial Association tours Old Fort to measure for an extra tablet to be set on an Indian Arrowhead marker. He shows a photo of a large arrowhead marker and predicts broad support from Commissioner J G Stikeleather and Western North Carolina communities for memorializing pioneers with a paved highway along the Appalachian Indian Route Master Scenic Highway of America plan envisions a circle trip attracting many towns and cities.
Bob o Link Miniature Golf Course chosen as the new name by judges. Mrs Maua Dehlyn wins the prize while Miss Lenore Keat ley Miss Mary Burgin and Mr Horace Earley served as judges. Eastern Star plans a watermelon feast on Robert Morris Day August 28 with Masons and wives invited to a lawn party at 7 30 p m. Van and Schenck shift from vaudeville to film in They Learned About Women opening at Everybody s Theatre for a two day engagement Monday.
F M Bradley visited Asheville. George Gildersleeve of Union Tanning stayed with Capt. and Mrs. Artz. Several locals and out of town guests visited Asheville Gastonia Marion Dublin Texas Tulsa Oklahoma Ahoskie Rutherfordton East Flat Rock Drexel Moorehead City and Lexington. Trips included business and family visits with multiple departures and arrivals noted.
The annual Dula reunion gathered 41 members from four states and eight towns near Lake Tahoma on Sunday. Hosts Mr. and Mrs. W. Hawkins of Marion welcomed guests including Mrs. Hattie McKee Cline of Dublin Texas and Mrs. Nannie McKee Gash of Hendersonville. An elaborate dinner followed under beech and cedar shade by a mountain stream. The next reunion is planned for August 1931.
Herbert Brenon directs a human war drama from Arnold Zweig in The Case of Sergeant Grischa. The film follows a Russian prisoner in German camps during the 1917 1918 wars with a powerful ensemble cast delivering convincing talking drama at Everybody’s Theatre Friday.
Deputies C. L. Tate and W. H. Bradley seized a steam still on Paris Creek near Mount Mitchell on August 11. They destroyed 500 gallons of beer. No arrests were made. The next day they captured a larger still on Curtis Creek Starr Gap Trail. Ten beer barrels and all equipment were destroyed with no arrests.
