Mr Giles of Morganton s ung several weeks with relatives in Old Fort. Many residents attend the county conferring at Old Fort High and events include church services and a fundraising stand by the Methodist Ladies Aid. Rev C L Taylor led Mt Carmel meeting. Rev P Billups spoke at Rutherford College and the quartet performed with Mrs V Goode at the church.
The Old Fort school achieved five first places and one second across six events last week. The grammar grade earned 24 points while the high school collected 29 points, leading county rivals in the contests. Overall Old Fort totaled 71 points for the week.
The Saturday baseball match between Old Fort and Hiddenite ended 1 to 1 after a well played contest umpired by E. E. Epley. Old Fort had earlier lost to Hiddenite on Friday. Saturday’s game drew a large crowd of visitors and locals.
The Old Fort Chapter of the U D C met in the club room on Thursday afternoon. President Mrs. J B Johnson presided and delegates to the state convention in Morganton this week were appointed.
We thank friends and relatives for kindness and sympathy in the death of our husband and father and for the floral offerings. Mrs W M Blackwelder and Son Kay.
