Morgan City La May 30 The flagship ship in a class of vessels is launched by shipyard head Charles Owenswell the wartime salvage supervisor. The Sacra the Sung is among the similar ships in the line awaiting completion.
May 10 reports a local Chickasha observance with prayers for divine blessings on the nation and allies. Details are fragmentary but indicate a communal gathering aimed at solidarity and supplication.
Reports from the American army in France confirm that a German plane downed near St Mihiel by four airmen working together. Lieutenants Fisher of Chicago Curtie of Rochester Byford of Nashville and Melanan of Philadelphia credited for the kill after a determined chase and rapid firing ending at dawn.

MADRID May 10 The grippe like epidemic sweeping Spain grows more severe with over 150,000 reported cases in Madrid. Mortality remains low while the illness spreads across the city and surrounding areas.
Paris dispatch reports increasing violence south of the Aisne as German forces press to widen their front. Allied wings retreat slightly while reserves mass and a full push is awaited. The center fighting hard, with stiff opposition and tentative gains of only miles, as unity of command steadies Allied positions.
New York May 0 De John Mott general secretary of the YMCA warns of urgent need to recruit 3200 men and women for service with American French and Italian units. A campaign will start immediately to bolster the YMCA stall in France and Italy as part of the war fund drive.
Fort Worth reports Sergt Larry Halphen of Ader, a trench mortar survivor, got a new ear after an explosion injury. The device, paid by $2, was intended to replace the lost ear and improve harmonization with a prosthesis. Halphen hopes to remain in the army despite disfigurement.
