Six men died and several were seriously injured when dynamite stored under the Fort Brady pier exploded this forenoon at Sault Ste Marie. A fire at the quartermaster’s building last Saturday caused further damage as soldiers began a military investigation.
Dr Arthur Davis, Kaiser Wilhelm’s American dentist, has a sister in Oklahoma City Mrs H M Fairey 219 Harrison Ave wife of the school board secretary. The Davis family born in Piqua Ohio have two more children and lived in Berlin for 13 years. A Chicago reunion last summer included Dr Davis his wife and baby. They returned to Berlin last September and Mrs Fairey has heard nothing since. She says she does not worry for his safety given his Hohenzollern connection. He declined to discuss the war while in the United States.
Five boards of officers were appointed today by Major General Thomas Ho Barry to investigate and report on available sites in the middle western states for training camps for the first contingent of 500000 men for overseas service.
Polly Hero was found guilty in county court this morning of maintaining a public nuisance by keeping liquor at 708 North Lottie Street in violation of the prohibition law. She was fined 50 dollars and sentenced to 30 days in the county jail.
