Washington May 1 The United States has completed and delivered ships totaling a million tons under the wartime program to defeat Germany. A total of 159 vessels of 1,10620 tons were completed by May 1 and entered service, with 46 wood ships launched but none delivered.
Ambiguous dispatches from Amsterdam outline a Vienna based speed treaty involving Rumania and other powers. The agreement reportedly compels Rumania to sell surplus grain plus fibrous plants over seven years with further terms tied to oil seeds poultry and cattle.
Chicago on May 14 saw five thousand teamsters and truck chauffeurs strike without warning. Patrick Barrell, business agent of the Truck Drivers union, said about 15,000 men would be out by night seeking an approximate $3 weekly wage advance. Delivery of coal, ice, freight, building materials and other goods was paralyzed as the city’s teamsters acted in a well organized, sudden stoppage.

Governor Williams clashed with John W. Shartel at a state board of equalization meeting over the permanent assessment of the Oklahoma Railway company. The board had set a tentative valuation at 3,427,291 with improvements. Shartel argued it was too high given losses and rising costs.

London May 14 A state of siege was declared at Smichow district Bohemia as troops were withdrawn according to an Exchange Telegraph dispatch from Amsterdam. About 150 women were arrested amid demonstrations and the burgomaster has resigned as ferment spreads through Bohemia per the report.
CAPE A. LANDON of Buffalo was today named director of the aircraft board division in Washington. He assumes leadership of the plane production division amid ongoing wartime automotive and aero program efforts.
May 3 report from London notes a military tribunal granted an exemption from service to William Fuller described as a specialist in padding cell construction. The tribunal stated no one in Great Britain could replace him for a key pharmaceutical facility project.
Durant board member Gus Holmes has joined the army without resigning his state embalmers post, leaving only two members present. Oklahoma City’s JM Draper and Laverne’s A Calloway demand the governor declare Holmes vacant and appoint a replacement. The issue hinges on whether removal is warranted for military service.
In Atlanta on May 14 the College of Bishops vetoed attempts by the general conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church South to grant tivity rights to women and to adopt the ritual from holy Catholic church to Christ's holy church. The bishops ruled that a two thirds vote of the annual conference was required for legality. The Washington DC Board of Education asks DC graduates to prepare for graduation ceremonies with gowns of inexpensive material.
