Louisville May 5 The campaign to raise the loan fund of the Methodist Episcopal Church South shows success as the board plans to present its increase. Under De W Fo McMurry the board added 171 832 91 to the fund for the year ending March 31, bringing total capital to almost 1 000 000.

At San Antonio Texas on May 5 General Pershing announced the near completion of a plane to organize the southern department of the army. The action makes American troops ready to field under that organization for the first time since the Civil War. Headquarters disclosed the plan today.

Seattle May 5 acquittal of Thomas He Tracy an Industrial Worker of the World for the murder of Deputy Sheriff Jefferson Beard at Everett on November 18. Jurors cleared Tracy as the sensational trial closed without finding him guilty amid tensions from a free labour expedition that left seven dead after a confrontation between citizens and the Industrial Workers of the World.
Washington dispatch notes national guard personnel to attend officers training camps. The date May 30 is noted, with officials delaying orders to allow regimental commanders to refine selections. Twenty five enlisted men per regiment will be picked for training.
