Vandals smeared the Webster junior high school kitchen with 15 dozen eggs and a fire extinguisher contents over the weekend. Mrs Laura Ward the cafeteria manager found the odd mixture on Monday morning. The Park and Lindsay location was breached. Burglar(s) ate a ham slice and ice cream, left two beer bottles, and looted trophy cases with seven trophies found outside a window.

Hugo Man Among 11 Rescued From Downed Catalina
W W Webb 23, former Hugo football player and student council member, survived when a Catalina flying boat en route to San Diego for decommissioning ditched in the Pacific about 650 miles southwest of Johnston Island. After nine crew and two passengers were picked up by LSM 448, a Grainger freighter, and a B 17 assisted, all survivors were reported safe and well. Webb had graduated Hugo High in 1943 and had written home about his squadron’s disbanding prior to possible assignment to the Philippines.
