Bauer is not held as the boy darted into the road. he could not swerve to miss him due to an oncoming truck. The death marks Tulsa as the state’s 111th traffic fatality of the year.
The U S State Department released a 36 page white paper accusing the Soviet government of fearing a free exchange of ideas with the United States. It details many failed attempts at cultural and scientific exchanges over 15 years and argues that three decades of communism have deprived 350 million people of freedom and living standards enjoyed in the U S. The document was issued ahead of a New York conference where Russia will be represented.
Weary workmen smothered a burning gas well in South Houston after more than nine hours of flaring. The fire began near Winkler Drive and raged overnight, lighting the sky and delaying traffic. No casualties were reported as drilling mud finally quenched the blaze.

Continental Oil Co plans moving 83 Ponca City staff to a new five story office at 125 NW 1st by December 1950. The transfer will affect 58 in marketing 15 in production and 10 in exploration. Managers moved include E A Williford L P Carpenter John Cram and C L Arnett.
Duncan's 123000 dollar school bond issue won final approval from Attorney General Mac Q Williamson on Thursday. The funds will finance construction of a new school building.

A previously unknown portrait of George Washington by Charles W. Peale sold at Sothebys for 880 pounds after withdrawal and low bidding. The auction opened at 400, then 200 with no bidders before a private English collector acquired it. origin to England was not disclosed. Peale painted several Washington portraits including the earliest known Washington image from 1772 at Mount Vernon.
The Parker Pen Co. robbery in Janesville Wisconsin expanded from 75000 to 363000 in value. An inventory now lists 40300 pen and pencil sets stolen. Auditor W C Fitchow says dealers will face rationing due to depletion of the new gold cap model.
Tokyo on March 24 reported that 73 police stations had their telephone service cut after failing to pay their bills. Service was restored on Thursday following a police promise to pay, with slow tax payments cited as the cause of the arrears.

Wilburton March 24 A former Wilburton mayor T P Tripp received a one year prison sentence for embezzlement. His trial motion was overruled and he appealed after sentencing by District Judge Clyde M Fallowell. Convicted March 2 he is free on a 2500 bond pending appeal. Sherman French named acting mayor after Tripp’s resignation and will run against A J Countiss in the April 5 election.
In Broken Bow, Dierks Lumber Co ordered a temporary saw mill shutdown due to timber scarcity. Weather hindered logging, leaving logs exhausted. 51 of 257 workers laid off while the planing mill continues operating and logs are sought to restart the saw mill.
Cherokee county Oklahoma farmer Rolland B. French was chosen for the W. G. Skelly award for superior achievement in agriculture. His 170 acre farm produced 6000 dozen eggs 30 market hogs 12 steers 800 bushels of corn 100 crates of strawberries and four tons of pecans alongside numerous beehives.
