Sixteen crew members of the American fighter Pinay del Rio report sinking an enemy submarine off the Maryland coast near Norfolk. The vessel was attacked while en route to Norfolk and later observed sinking several miles offshore near Elizabeth City, NC.
Sixteen crew members from the American steamship Pinar del Rio, sunk by a German submarine off Mary land ty, reach New Jersey aboard a Norwegian rescue ship. The chief mate Mackenzie and fifteen others died before rescue. All remaining crew are landed on the North Carolina coast.
City grocers reportedly stock Wheatless bread and sell limited rations while bakers adhere to a 7 percent wheat rule. Officials may tighten controls as shortages persist. a Supreme Court order on a coal case is noted.

At a luncheon of the Oklahoma Oil and Mining Men’s association at the Savoy cafe the group announced a weeklong meeting and a campaign to root out dishonest promoters. A special committee led by Henry Johnson will push plans to require typewritten financial statements from member firms and provide investors with data on production resources reliability and honesty. The association will publicize companies that fail to file. The next meeting is Friday noon at the Savoy. Henry Johnson is secretary.
London June 10 The man ashore on the west coast of Ireland from a German submarine, now a prisoner in the Tower of London, is Lance Corporal J Dowling of the Connaught Regiment. The report came from James Marpherson in Parliament.
A Russian anti Bolshevik commander Semenoff reportedly repelled Kaseen troops near the new river in Trans Manchuria. Reports from Harbin say Semenoff faces heavy odds as fighting continues with Trans Siberia forces.
Paris reports a renewed German offensive between Montdidier and Noyon with heavy fighting. In the center the Germans advanced into Cavilly wood and Ressons aut Matz about three miles from their initial point while French and American forces gained ground near Brussiares on the Marne and captured over 500 prisoners. The attackers suffer heavy losses as the battle continues.
Reports from the front describe German masses directing artillery and infantry at Hocages and Riquebourg as the center of the front shifts. French gunners pinned the attackers with reserves not yet called in while counterattacks threaten heavy costs for any advance. Military critics urge patience before judging the broader offensive.

Maj General Wt Gorgas head of the national council of defence told reporters in Chicago that the army needs 5000 more young physicians for active service by July 1 with more later as mobilization expands He said the army aims to field the best health force and noted an 8 percent death rate among American troops and high recovery prospects with up to 78 to 90 percent of the wounded returning to duty and no more than 10 percent permanently disabled
A proposed centralized war economy would bind US and allied efforts into a single industrial machine. Baruch leads a committee to present a plan to the President and allied representatives. The aim is to coordinate finances and manufacturing, avoid duplication, and mirror military unity under general Foch.
