New York reports the Cunard liner Carpathia, bound from England, has picked up Titanic survivors after it sank in the North Atlantic. The Barunga transport and a British sloop were also torpedoed by a submarine, with twelve crewmen surviving. The Carpathia then assisted in rescue operations near Ireland.
Herbert Hoover, American food controller, arrived today at a British port on a trip to England. The visit marks his first official arrival in the country during wartime cooperation with Britain and broader postwar relief planning.

No Soviet authorities reportedly exist in the white Murman area.
On July 19 French and American troops pushed forward between Soissons and Chateau Thierry amid heavy night fighting. American gains included several towns near Soissons and Vierry six miles south, as heavy artillery and German reinforcements shaped a fierce plateau battle. Paris reports indicate possible fall of Soissons though official word was not confirmed.
Paris July 19. French troops regain Montvoisin north of the Marne and push in Rotwood and Courton wood seizing four cannons and about 400 prisoners. Along the Aisne to Marne front heavy fighting continues with gains for the Allies including the outskirts of Deuilly. Italian troops report reads Moulin d Ardre near Marfaux and northwest of Pourey as captured with prisoner totals around 13 000. Premier Clemenceau’s paper cites prisoner and gun captures as equivalent to numbers announced by Germany. Inter Allied forces press the line Arse to Marne with renewed counteroffensive and reserves rushed to blunt the German right flank. South of the Marne the French retake Montvoiein and drive back the enemy two miles north of the river.
