A 60 truck American convoy bound for the U S military post in Berlin moved toward the Soviet zone frontier for a test of Soviet policy. Unarmed escorts ferried the trucks to Helmstedt on the Berlin autobahn while British police reported Berlin bound German trucks stalled there amid varying Soviet passage rates. If through, the plan is to set up a weekly trucking link to Berlin. Britain weighs similar convoys. Since May 12 allied transport has traveled the route without hindrance.

230 Patients Led From Fire at Evansville Hospital
An orderly and nurses evacuated 230 of 250 patients from Deaconess hospital after a fourth floor fire and explosion. Fireman Alvis Dill and orderly Frank Swallow were overcome but revived. Disposal Plant Worker Killed in Work Mishap
A 23-year-old laborer, George Riley Smith of Bethany, died after being crushed between a truck and an air compressor at a new Southside sewage disposal plant. Witness J H Morrison of Midwest City said the truck rolled down an incline after Smith attempted to unhook the cable. Morrison reported Smith had worked at the site about three months before the incident. The body was taken to Street & Draper funeral home.

Army deactivates two dangerous aerial torpedoes in Utah yard
In Lake City officials and Army experts safely removed warhead devices from two experimental aerial torpedoes found in a junkyard. A worker was briefly injured when the torpedoes ignited. residents were evacuated as troops created sandbag barriers and dismantled the weapons. The salvaged torpedoes, bought Tuesday as surplus, were not rendered safe before delivery.
