Washington August 15 The house foreign affairs committee approved the presidents request for western Europe arms aid totaling 1 160 990 000 in cash and contract authority The panel split the funds into two cash allotments 498 130 000 usable to next March 31 and 157 710 000 from March 31 to June 30 1950 plus contract authority 428 100 000 to March 31 and 77 050 000 from March 31 to June 30 The committee refused any authorization for non communist China.

Are 55 Saved In Sea Crash Off Irish Coast
Ruth Nichols and 54 others were rescued from the Atlantic after a Transocean Airlines DC-4 crashed five miles off Galway, Ireland. Two bodies recovered, one American crewman remains missing. One Italian crew member and one Italian passenger among the dead. 47 passengers were Italian emigrants bound for South America. Tulsa Man Shot Near Osage County Roadside

Grandmother Dives Into Well to Save Grandson
A 67-year-old Dustin grandmother who could not swim jumped into an open cornfield well to rescue her 7-year-old grandson Clarence Wesley Eden of Oklahoma City. She and the boy stayed afloat for six to seven minutes until help arrived. He was pulled out unharmed.
